DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sgt. Marshall A. Westbrook, 43, of Farmington, N. M. , died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Oct. 1, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Westbrook was assigned to the Army National Guard's 126th Military Police Company, Albuquerque, N. M.

DoD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Cpl. John R. Stalvey, 22, of Conroe, Texas, died Oct. 3 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces during Operation Iron Fist in Karabilah, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N. C. Media with questions about this Marine can call the 2nd Marine Division Public Affairs Office at 910-451-9033.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Staff Sgt. John G. Doles, 29, of Claremore, Okla. , died in Shah Wali, Afghanistan, on Sept. 30, during patrol operations when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. Doles was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment, Vicenza, Italy.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. 1st Class James J. Stoddard Jr. , 29, of Crofton, Md. , died in Afghanistan on Sept. 30, when his vehicle accidentally rolled over. Stoddard was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, N. C.

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Al Qaeda in Iraq claims that two U.S. Marines were kidnapped in western Iraq Oct. 2 are patently false. All Marines and service members attached to Multi-National Force-West are accounted for.

This latest claim by the terror organization continues a pattern of deceit. This hoax demonstrates the organization’s willingness and desire to use the media to propagate their lies.

DoD adds… The kidnapping claim came during Operation Kabda Bil Hadid, or "Iron Fist," in the western part of the country near the Syrian border. About 1,000 Marines, soldiers and sailors from Regimental Combat Team 2 began engaging al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists west of Sadah Oct. 1.

Iron Fist, part of the larger Operation Sayaid, or "Hunter," is designed to keep al Qaeda terrorists in Iraq from operating freely in the Euphrates River Valley. It is also meant to prevent terrorists from influencing the local population through murder and intimidation, officials said.
