My Take:

Romney’s Rescue of 2002 Olympics and Situation of the Time
.
I believe the one thing that hardly ever gets mentioned about Mitt Romney’s rescue of the 2002 Olympics is the situation of the time. That it all went down so soon after 9/11 and that the overall security of the Nation was still not yet sure.
.
The 2002 Utah Winter Olympics in the end did become a huge success. In fact it was one of the most successful Olympic Games ever! That’s something that cannot be spun as non-fact either. And this success even came after so many worries and after all the bad writings and broadcast news during this time over the overall security, cost, and if there would be any kind of success at all of this grand event.
.
Fortunately for all, Mitt Romney took this disaster by the horns and brought it back from between a 300 to 400 million dollar deficit and turned it around into a 100 million dollar surplus. Not too shabby, Mitt -- not too shabby at all!
.
I know not about you, but I remember this time in history very well. I remember that when all was said and spun, the 2002 Winter Olympics brought us so much pride to this, (at the time,) wounded country of ours.
.
It really was a great time in the history of our great country, even after so much pain, suffering and fear had been brought down upon us not so many months before.
.
In the heading of my Blog I write:
.
No matter what your political views might be... One thing is for certain. In these days of fast news and even faster life styles... We all seem to have forgotten those moments in history that so abruptly and tragically changed this beloved Country of ours... 9/11… How soon we forget…
.
Funny how that holds so true, even after just under eleven years has passed us by, since that tragic day. It also holds true to the forgetfulness of most people on how things really were during those first few days, weeks, months and first years thereafter.
.
Bottom line… Mitt, job well done sir, and thank you.

‘Mother of All Battles’ Looms in Aleppo, Syria
Russia Says Tragedy Imminent

* NPR.org brings us the following report this Saturday afternoon and it starts off like this… Syrian rebels are taking a pounding in Aleppo, Syria's largest city but they continue to hold some neighborhoods where they've taken control. VOA reports the Syrian government is warning of “the mother of all battles” in the commercial hub, home to millions of people. Russia says a tragedy is "imminent."…

* The Chicago Tribune has this report that goes in part like this… In the wake of the Security Council vetoes by Russia and China, the United States has said it will seek ways to tackle the crisis outside the U.N. … [Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro] Gemba said it was “very serious moment” in Syria and it was primarily up to the government to stop the bloodshed…

My Take:
.
On Saturday, July 28, 2012, Russia said a tragedy was imminent in Syria’s largest city, Aleppo. Now the way I see it, Russia saying a tragedy is IMMINENT in Syria is like Saddam Hussein saying a tragedy is imminent in northern Iraq against the Kurds, right before he gassed all those thousands of poor innocent men, women and children to death.
.
Like Saddam Hussein, Russia too has no clean hands here, in Syria, for they are supporting this ongoing mass murder by their strong political support and the supplying of arms to this brutal dictator Assad. Not to mention the fact that Russia, along with China, have vetoed three UN Security Council Sanctions against the Syrian regime which could have helped in putting a halt to some to most of all this senseless murder that has been going on for well over a year and a half now.

POST UPDATE:
Mitt Concluded Three-Nation International Tour on Tuesday
Monday, July 31, 2012
.
* The Washington Post has the following report posted on their website this Monday afternoon and it starts off like this… Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney concluded his three-nation international tour on Tuesday with a speech that praised Poland as a beacon of conservative economic ideas in Europe, then used a television interview to try to explain earlier controversial comments in Israel… Romney had seemed to suggest during a speech at a Jerusalem fundraiser that the economy of the Palestinian territories lagged behind Israel’s in part because of “culture.” The former Massachusetts governor said in a Fox News Channel interview Tuesday that he “did not speak about the Palestinian culture or the decisions made in their economy.”… “That’s an interesting topic that perhaps could deserve scholarly analysis, but I actually didn’t address that. Certainly don’t intend to address that during my campaign,” he said, according to a partial transcript released by Fox News Channel. “Instead, I will point out are that the choices a society makes have a profound impact on the economy and the vitality of that society.”…

Bomber kills three top Syrian Military Officials Wednesday including Assef Shawkat, al-Assad’s Powerful and Entrusted Brother-In-Law -- Even if the Regime is still standing in 36 hrs, I’d still say it is in its last throes
Wednesday, July 18, 2012
.
The news out of Syria has had all kinds of twists and turns since early Sunday morning. But today’s bombing and killing of three top Military Officials has change everything… overnight! I start this post with the top news from Sunday and finish with today’s latest news.
...
* The Wall Street Journal had the following AP report posted on their website late Sunday morning and it goes in part like this. …Although there has been a string of horrific attacks in Syria over the course of the uprising, the violence appears to be escalating. On Sunday, the International Committee of the Red Cross said it now deems the conflict in Syria a civil war, meaning international humanitarian law applies throughout the country… The Geneva-based group's assessment is an important reference that helps parties in a conflict determine how much and what type of force they can or cannot use

.
* The Guardian Express had this report posted on their website a few days ago and it goes in part like this. Western intelligence sources say Assad has a list of targets ready to go. Analyzing the Syrian war game taking place last week, they calculated that Wednesday and Thursday, July 11 and 12, the Syrian army practiced shooting missiles at strategic centers in Israel, Turkey and Jordan… But while most Western officials now confirm that Assad has moved his WMD warheads and shells out of storage, they are already divided on what it means. Some US officials are soft-pedaling the menace, offering the theory that the Syrian ruler is only safeguarding his unconventional weapons from falling into rebel -- or what he calls “terrorist” -- hands… Other Western intelligence watchers, especially in Britain, believe he is preparing a campaign of ethnic cleansing at centers of revolt and report that chemical weapons have already been transferred to Homs, Latakia and Aleppo for operational use

.
* I ran across this CNN report, with News Video, early Sunday afternoon that’s well worth clicking out. It starts off like this… The most senior Syrian diplomat to defect and publicly embrace his country's uprising is calling for a foreign military intervention to topple president Bashar al-Assad. He also accused the Damascus regime of collaborating with al Qaeda militants against opponents both in Syria and in neighboring Iraq… "I support military intervention because I know the nature of this regime," Nawaf al Fares told CNN. "This regime will only go by force."

.
* Let’s now get to today’s news by REUTERS. Their report starts off like this… Slain brother-in-law Assef Shawkat was one of the principle figures in the tight, clan-based ruling elite that has been battling to put down a 16-month rebellion against four decades of rule by Assad and his father… The defense minister and a senior general were also killed and other top security officials wounded in the attack on a crisis meeting of top Assad security aides that took place as battles raged within sight of the nearby presidential palace… A security source said the bomber was a bodyguard entrusted with protecting the closest members of Assad's circle. State television said it was a suicide bomb. Two anti-Assad groups claimed responsibility… The government vowed to retaliate, and residents said army helicopters fired machine guns and in some cases rockets at several residential districts. Television footage showed rebels storming a security base in southern Damascus… By nightfall, activists said Syrian army artillery had begun shelling the capital from the mountains that overlook it… Assad's own whereabouts were a mystery - he did not appear in public or make a statement in the hours after the attack. The White House said it did not know where the Syrian leader was

* CNN brings us the following troubling report and it starts off like this… A shot rings out, but the burqa-clad woman sitting on the rocky ground does not respond… The man pointing a rifle at her from a few feet away lets loose another round, but still there is no reaction… He fires a third shot, and finally the woman slumps backwards… But the man fires another shot… And another. And another… Nine shots in all… Around him, dozens of men on a hillside cheer: "God is great!"… Officials in Afghanistan, where the amateur video was filmed, believe the woman was executed because two Taliban commanders had a dispute over her, according to the governor of the province where the killing took place…

Awful: Taliban Executes A Woman For Adultery
In Parwan Afghanistan As Dozens Of Men Cheer On!

-- This Video removed by me due to Google Ad Policies --

News Video by Reuters that shows raw video footage of shooting: A man believed to be a member of the Taliban shot and killed a woman accused of adultery in front of a cheering crowd near the Afghan capital of Kabul. In a 3 minute video obtained by Reuters, a man is seen walking up to a woman kneeling in the dirt and shoots her 9 times at close range with an automatic rifle to cheers from the 150 men watching. As he approached her, another man can be heard saying "Allah warns us not to get close to adultery because it's the wrong way. It is the order of Allah that she be executed." When the woman fell sideways, the spectators chanted: "Long live the Afghan mujahideen! (Islamist fighters)," which is what the Taliban call themselves.

* The New York Times had the following report posted late Wednesday evening and it goes in part like this. …The Iranians raised the shrill tone a notch on Wednesday, when the air force commander of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which has been conducting the missile tests, said he had contingency plans to hit 35 American bases in the early minutes of any conflict… “All these bases are within the reach of our missiles,” the commander, Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, was quoted as saying by Iran’s semiofficial Fars news agency. He was also quoted as saying Israel had provided “good targets for us as well.”… The increasingly hostile tone has mirrored pessimism over the lack of visible progress in the nuclear negotiations. [Ya THINK!!!]

* FOX News had the following AP report posted up on their website Wednesday afternoon and it starts off like this… Iran declared Wednesday that it can destroy nearby U.S. military bases and strike Israel within minutes of an attack on the Islamic Republic, reflecting tensions over Iran's suspect nuclear program… The veiled threat came during a military drill that has included the firing of ballistic missiles. The elite Revolutionary Guards, conducting the war games in Iran's central desert, said that the missiles were aimed at mock-ups of foreign military bases…

* Guardian News reported it this way… Iran is prepared to launch missiles at US bases throughout the Gulf within minutes of an attack on the Islamic Republic, according to a commander of the country's Revolutionary Guards… In an apparent response to reports that the US has increased its military presence in the Gulf, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' air force said on Wednesday that missiles had been aimed at 35 US military bases in the Gulf as well as targets in Israel, ready to be launched in case of an attack… The semi-official Fars news agency reported Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh as saying: “We have thought of measures to set up bases and deploy missiles to destroy all these bases in the early minutes after an attack.”…

* Columnists Robert Fox has this take on the news and it goes in part like this. …The United States has increased its minesweeper force in the Gulf to eight ships. The UK already has a long-standing patrol of minehunters there. US F-22 Raptor stealth fighter-bombers and F15c bombers have been sent to various bases throughout the region, and two aircraft carrier groups are on standby… Britain has plans for putting a squadron of Typhoon Eurofighters in the Gulf, either in Qatar or the UAE. An infantry battalion can be moved at short notice. A western alliance led by the US, Britain and France is preparing forces to suppress Iran’s coastal anti-aircraft missile batteries and their shore-based anti-ship missiles if there is a sudden flare-up round the Straits of Hormuz… In the past 48 hours, officials in Washington and London have lessened the likelihood that the Iranian military and Revolutionary Guard will try to shut the Straits of Hormuz. But fears have been growing in the past few weeks that Israel may carry out a pre-emptive strike against Iran's nuclear centrifuges - principally those at Natanz…

Iran Tests Ballistic Missiles as Oil Embargo Takes Effect: US Navy Enters Persian Gulf
About above News Video: Iran has launched several ballistic missiles as part of a military exercise, the country's official news agency IRNA reported. The missiles - which included long-range ones capable of hitting US Navy in the Persian Gulf - successfully hit their targets. The military maneuver coincides with a European Union oil embargo underway since 1 July aimed at applying pressure on the country over its nuclear program. Iran, OPEC's second-biggest producer, is finding fewer countries willing to buy its crude, which could pinch global supplies.
