Federal Judge Roger Vinson Rules Health Law Violates Constitution

Monday, January 31, 2011
.
A second federal judge ruled on Monday that it was unconstitutional for Congress to enact a health care law that requires Americans to obtain commercial insurance, evening the score at two-to-two in the lower courts as the conflicting opinions begin their path to the Supreme Court... Judge Roger Vinson of Federal District Court in Pensacola, Fla., ruled that the law will remain in effect until all appeals are concluded, a process that could take two years. However, Judge Vinson determined that the entire law should fall if appellate courts agree with his opinion that the insurance requirement is invalid... In a 78-page opinion, Judge Vinson held that the insurance requirement exceeds the regulatory powers granted to Congress under the Commerce Clause of the Constitution...

Million-Strong Protest Planned For Tuesday -
Monday, January 31, 2011
.
* Guardian.co.uk gets us started this Monday with the latest news out of Egypt. Their report starts off like this... Egypt's army gave a powerful boost to the country's opposition tonight by announcing it would not use force to silence "legitimate" demands for democratic reforms in the Arab world's largest country... On the eve of a million-strong protest planned for tomorrow and amid multiplying signs that the US is moving steadily closer towards ditching its long-standing ally, Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak now has few options left...

* Reuters.com reports the news like this... talks on sweeping reforms with the opposition on Monday, as pressure from street protests, Western allies and the army appeared to be ending Mubarak's 30 years of one-man rule... After a week of unprecedented rallies against poverty, corruption and oppression under the 82-year-old military-backed leader, newly-appointed Vice President Omar Suleiman appeared on state television to say Mubarak had asked him to begin dialogue with all political forces on constitutional and other reforms... The channel later said talks had begun...

* JPost.com reports... Senior Israeli government officials have been strict in upholding a silence regarding the events in Egypt, and have also been hesitant about criticizing - at least publicly - US President Barack Obama's stand toward the developments there... Privately, however, some have expressed deep concern at what they view as the hypocritical abandonment by the US of a long time ally once he seemed to be in trouble, with one official saying that while America believes pushing Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak out would lead to a democratic government, the more likely scenario was that this would lead to an Islamist regime even worse on issues like human rights and freedom than Mubarak...

Israelis Express Support For Egypt
About this news video: Israel's officials may be keeping their opinions close to their chests about Egypt's unrest, but its media is not... Newspaper headlines talking about a so-called New Middle East and reports that Israel has asked European and US leaders to support President Hosni Mubarak's regime... For Israel, maintaining the status quo of its largest neighbor is a key strategic interest. It means the continuation of a 30 year old peace agreement, a quiet border with the Gaza strip, and as close as Israel can get to a friend in the Middle East...

Here’s a good read I ran across at HAARETZ.com and it goes in part like this ... the "cold peace" with Egypt was the most important strategic alliance Israel had in the Middle East. The security provided by the alliance gave Israel the chance to concentrate its forces on the northern front and around the settlements. Starting in 1985, peace with Egypt allowed for Israel to cut its defense budget, which greatly benefited the economy... Mubarak became president while Israel was governed by Menachim Begin, and has worked with eight different Israeli leaders since then...

Oil Surges To Near $90 A Barrel As Egyptian Anti-Government Protests Spark Concerns Over Waning Regional Stability - Should Violence Spread Over Into Saudi Arabia, $200 A Barrel For Crude BIG Possibility

With anti-government protests in Egypt sparking concerns this morning over regional stability... Crude oil prices spiked Friday, having increased by more than 4% and reaching near $90 a barrel, ($89.65) before retreating in early afternoon trading. OUCH!
..................................................................
- Here are just a few troubling reports I ran down today -
.
* The Wall Street Journal has the following report posted up on their website today and it starts off like this... Tanker stocks surged Friday as investors speculated that the civil unrest in Egypt could lead to a shutdown of the Suez Canal, an incident that would likely spark a sharp uptick in demand for ships... The Suez Canal is a key transit point for oil and fuel shipments from the Persian Gulf to the Western Hemisphere, and a closure there would mean ships would have to travel around the southern tip of Africa instead, adding thousands of miles to their journeys, and likely tightening shipping capacity... There doesn't appear to be any solid indication the canal is in danger of shutting down, but it's seen as a possibility as protestors rallied in the streets of Egypt for the fourth straight day against President Hosni Mubarak...

.
* Bloomberg.com reposts it this way... Trading of bullish options on an exchange-traded fund tracking crude futures soared to a record as oil surged the most since September 2009 after unrest in Egypt raised concern that protests would spread to major oil- producing parts of the Middle East...

Day of Remembrance

Message from the Administrator: Day of Remembrance
Thursday, January 27, 2011
.
The last week of January every year brings us the opportunity to reflect on the sobering realities of our space exploration enterprise. Each time men and women board a spacecraft, their actions carry great risk along with the opportunity for great discoveries and the chance to push the envelope of our human achievement. Today, we honor the Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia crews, as well as other members of the NASA family who lost their lives supporting NASA’s mission of exploration. We thank them and their families for their extraordinary sacrifices in the service of our nation.
.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the loss of Challenger -- a tragedy that caused us to completely re-think our systems and processes as we worked to make the shuttle safer. The nation will never forget January 28, 1986, nor its indelible images. The astronauts in that crew were personal friends of mine, as were the astronauts aboard Columbia when it was lost. The Apollo I crew perished while I was studying at the Naval Academy, and I mourned their loss in the line of duty with the nation. These brave men and women will always be a part of us, and we are still building on their legacies.
.
NASA has learned hard lessons from each of our tragedies, and they are lessons that we will continue to keep at the forefront of our work as we continuously strive for a culture of safety that will help us avoid our past mistakes and heed warnings while corrective measures are possible. In memory of our colleagues, I ask the NASA Family once again to always make its opinions known and to be unafraid to speak up to those in authority, so that safety can always be our guiding principle and the sacrifices of our friends and colleagues will not be in vain.
.
On this Day of Remembrance, as we honor our fallen heroes with tributes and public ceremonies, I will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Across the country, flags at NASA Headquarters and the NASA centers will be flown at half-mast in memory of our colleagues lost in the cause of exploration.
.
The legacy of those who have perished is present every day in our work and inspires generations of new space explorers. Every day, with each new challenge we overcome and every discovery we make, we honor these remarkable men and women. Please join me in working to fulfill their dreams for the future.

So enjoy tonight’s show... full of lies and disguise... and I’m sure full of all that Hope and Change thingy too... With a whole bunch of ... Can we all just get along...

.
Over at last...
.
President Obama lost me for good tonight... and it only took him about 5 minutes into his speech, when he went into how great America is and his rundown on the great American Space Program of past.
.
He carried us from the Russians being first in space with Sputnik... all the way to America being first on the moon.
.
Yes... these were great times in our history and you would think he would have learned a thing or two from it, but sadly as he continued to speak tonight I found it just not to be so of him.
.
President Obama told us tonight how GREAT the future is going to be with all these new jobs he envisioned from all this new technology we will soon have by simply building upon our needs for new energy.
.
He actually stood there looking at us and laughed... Telling us about those mean old oil boys and how they are not going to get anymore help from him or the Government.
.
They don’t need any help! They seem to be getting by just fine lately without us he laughs.
.
Heck, stop here... Who we kidding...
.
Here before us tonight stood a man, with such vision... that he laughed as he turned his back and slammed the door on an industry that is fixing to go through total hell this summer... along with all of us fellow Americans.
.
Here before us tonight stood a man, with such vision... that he laughed, knowing that another major crunch will surely fall upon us if/when gas prices at the pumps climb above 4.oo a gallon by summer’s end, as many in the know of such things are predicting. You think the economy is bad now with high prices on food and everything else. JUST WAIT!
.
Here before us tonight stood a man, with such vision... that he talked about all the wonderful things the Space Program had brought to us and the world. Yet... he mentions nothing... notta... about any vision of any future manned space mission or about any of the new and wonderful science and discoveries we would surely find by following this same path as we had in the past.
.
I guess he really couldn’t go there tonight though... Could he...? Being he had already canceled out all of those possibilities from our space program last year. Way to go Mr. President!!!
.
Funny how President Obama ends tonight’s speech saying... “We do big things!”
.
No, Mr. President... We once did...
.
With that said... How about that Republican follow-up response by Rep Paul Ryan!!!? In my opinion... he knocked it out of the park. And he did so by doing one heck of a better job than Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal ever did when he TRIED to give his follow-up response for the Republican Party. Tha pain... Tha pain of it all... lol
.
Big future in the making for this young man, Rep Paul Ryan... He will surely be one of a handful of others to keep our eyes on for better things to come out of our leaders in Washington DC.

Rep. Michele Bachmann Delivers Tea Party Response...
to State of the Union Address
About this Video: Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., delivered the Tea Party response following President Obama's State of the Union address and Rep. Paul Ryan's Republican response. She did a nice job I guess but nothing like Rep Ryan's response. He knocked it out of the park. Only thing that really bugged me bad about Rep Bachmann’s response would be... LOOK at the CAMERA!!! They really screwed up bad by not getting this part of the presentation right... A major turn-off to many, in other words.

My thoughts and more on the tragic, senseless shooting that went down late Saturday morning in Tucson, Arizona

Tuesday, January 11, 2011
.
Like many of you out there, I too have been watching all the news coming in over the senseless shootings that went down late Saturday morning in Tucson, Arizona.
.
As with any past tragic event like this one, the first people to always raise their ugly heads are the stick stirrers. And yes... they are found on both sides of the political aisle.
.
This time though, we seem to find the left out in force on this one and you know the ones too. If not... just start reading the blogs out there or read through the comments on any of the thousands of reports on this tragic event.
.
Just watch/listen to any of your favorite news/radio channels. They will have someone on before long or they will be reporting/talking about it before too much time passes by.
.
What saddens me most is that within just a few hours of the shootings... and without even knowing who the shooter was as of yet... many were already out there on the left pointing fingers.
.
They were/are blaming everything/everyone from right-wing rhetoric, the gun laws, the Tea Party... all the way to even blaming Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin!
.
GIVE ME a BREAK!!!
.
Nothing... Notta... Zilch... has yet to come out to even hint that any of this was so. But they keep on at it... And I believe at their own peril for most of the folks out there do not buy into this kind of rhetoric.
.
Now... if you asked me... Loughner would have rather of been watching something like ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ than anything on Fox News. But that is just me...
.
Bottom line is that most mental health experts out there believe accused shooter Jared Lee Loughner was likely more driven by a delusional mind than by any interest in politics.
.
Keep to the facts people...
.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those killed or wounded by this tragic shooting and to all their friends and loved ones.
