* News-JournalOnline.com gets us started off with the following report and it starts off like this… How can you tell it's an election year? … When political leaders begin delaying important decisions, perhaps beyond Nov. 6, 2012… On that key date, President Barack Obama will face the voters. Perhaps to inspire a segment of his own supporters, Obama on Thursday put the brakes on a crucial energy plan that will import at least 700,000 barrels of oil daily from our neighbor to the north, Canada… That is a large daily supply, one that could ease the market price of a barrel of oil -- which settled at $99 per barrel at close on Friday… It's a puzzling and potentially destructive delay. The U.S. State Department had already said the proposed 1,700-mile pipeline route from Alberta to Texas would not affect the environment in the Great Plains states or elsewhere. Yet on Thursday, the State Department called for a new review that could be finished by the first quarter of 2013 -- well past Election Day, 2012… TransCanada Corp., the company proposing the Keystone XL pipeline project, made its initial application in late 2008. The Obama administration isn't exactly moving at the speed of business…

And Prime Minister Stephen Harper says the delay shows why Canada needs to diversity its trade beyond the US…

* The Washington Post reports it this way… Canada has stepped up its lobbying after the Obama administration delayed a decision on an oil pipeline critical to the country’s economic future… Canada’s prime minister said he made it clear in a weekend meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama that Canada will step up its efforts to sell oil to Asia since the Obama administration delayed a decision on the proposed Keystone XL pipeline…

* Fuelfix.com has the following report and it starts off like this… The Keystone XL pipeline may be the first shovel-ready project buried by foot-dragging… While the Obama administration allows the proposed pipeline, which would move oil from Canada’s oil sands region in northern Alberta to Gulf Coast refineries, to languish, market demands will ensure the oil is transported south by other routes. By the time Keystone gets the green light from the State Department, there may be no demand for it…
