A strong action in Pakistan's lawless tribal areas bordering Afghanistan by beleaguered Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf could lead to a spilt in the army, a media report said on Saturday... Detailing a multitude of troubles that Musharraf faces at home, Time magazine quoting a former head of the powerful intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence said many foreign observers believe that his days are numbered as leader of Pakistan, raising the issue of who could possibly replace America's primary ally in the war against terror in this critical region...

Pakistan Siege Cleric Agrees To "Last-Ditch" Talks

Abdul Rashid Ghazi has agreed to hold talks after the President [President General Pervez Musharraf] announced the former PM would broker them... Officials say a Pakistani cleric under siege in a mosque in the capital, Islamabad, has agreed to hold talks with seven top religious leaders, overseen by a former prime minister. Abdul Rashid Ghazi made the concession after President Pervez Musharraf authorised Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who served as prime minister for three months in 2004, to broker the "last-ditch" negotiations to end the week-long stand-off...

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf tells mosque militants "surrender or die"

President Pervez Musharraf told Islamist militants barricaded in a mosque on Saturday to surrender or die, while concern grew for hundreds of women and children inside the besieged compound in the Pakistani capital... "If they don't surrender, I'm saying it here, they will be killed," Musharraf said, in his first public comments on the deadly stand-off in Islamabad.

President General Pervez Musharraf Evades Assassination Attempt

Gunners fired shots after an aircraft carrying President Gen. Pervez Musharraf took off from a military base Friday, officials and witnesses said, in an apparent assassination attempt that has added to the sense of crisis enveloping Pakistan... It was unclear if the incident was linked to an army siege of a radical mosque in the capital. However, it underlines concerns about the threat posed by Islamic militants to Pakistan's stability and role as a key U.S. ally... Compounding the gloom, police said a suicide attacker pedaled a bicycle bomb into a military convoy in the northwest, killing four soldiers...
