Coalition Responds to Terrorist Attack on Afghan School

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan, April 11, 2006- Coalition forces responded to a terrorist attack this morning at the Salabagh School in the capital city of Afghanistan's Kunar province, Combined Forces Command Afghanistan officials reported.

Initial reports indicate that six children were killed and 14 were wounded when a rocket exploded in the yard of the crowded Asadabad School, officials said. Coalition servicemembers and local authorities helped rush the wounded to the nearby provincial reconstruction team hospital for emergency treatment.

"This despicable act clearly demonstrates the enemy's complete disregard for the Afghan people," said Army Maj. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley, commander of Combined Joint Task Force 76. "Together, the Afghan National Army and coalition forces will hunt down these terrorists and ensure they're held responsible.”
