McKenzie on Forward Operating Base Cherokee in the Helmand province of Afghanistan Oct. 15, 2009. McKenzie, deputy to Dutch navy Rear Adm. Matthieu Borsboom, the deputy chief of staff for stability, International Security Assistance Force - Afghanistan, is leaving the base after visiting with the unit’s Marines. The Marines are assigned to one of the combat elements of Regimental Combat Team 3, whose mission is to conduct counterinsurgency operations in partnership with the Afghan National Security Forces in southern Afghanistan.
