DoD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Lt. Col. Michael A. Robinson, 42, of Sylacauga, Ala., died June 1st in Kabul, Afghanistan. His death is under investigation.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Romel Catalan, 21, of Los Angeles, died June 2nd in Ameriyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Doonewey White, 26, of Milpitas, Calif., died May 29th in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations May 28th in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Terrorist Leader, Network Members Captured

Coalition Forces detained 14 suspected terrorists in raids Monday morning targeting the al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leader networks in Mosul and Karmah.

Based on information gained from a previous successful operation in Anbar province, Coalition Forces captured a suspected senior terrorist leader in Mosul connected to the al-Qaeda in Iraq network. The individual is also suspected of making decisions on enforcing religious punishments and operating a smuggling ring transporting weapons and cargo.

Coalition Forces detained 12 suspected terrorists tied to the al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leader network in Karmah. One individual is allegedly a close contact of several high-level terrorist leaders.

“Al-Qaeda in Iraq and its terrorist networks continue to lose ground with every operation we conduct,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. “Terrorists have no place in the future of Iraq.”

A vehicle borne explosive device detonated outside Forward Operating Base Warhorse near Baqouba, Iraq, June 3.

The attack occurred in the vicinity of an entry control point, but did not cause any damage to the entrance or the base.

Following the VBIED attack, there was an unconfirmed report of off-color smoke in the vicinity of the explosion and a number of Soldiers reported minor respiratory irritations and watery eyes. The Soldiers were treated by Coalition Forces medical personnel on base and all were returned to duty.

There were no casualties from the VBIED attack. There are no civilian casualties reported at this time. The incident is currently under investigation.
