The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Cpl. Charles P. Gaffney Jr., 42, of Phoenix, Ariz., died December 24th in Paktika, Afghanistan, when his combat outpost received enemy rocket fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
