New Topic... Operation Lighting

"Operation Lighting"
Iraqi troops are sealing off Baghdad to search for and hunt down insurgents responsible for the killing of hundreds of Iraqis in recent weeks. This is the Iraqi troops largest such operation since the fall of Saddam Hussein. Operation Lighting involves over 40,000 Iraqi troops and police who are being supported by another 10,000 U.S. forces. They began the operation this Sunday by setting up the first of several hundred checkpoints in and around Baghdad. The Insurgents didn't sit back but instead they hit back in a series of attacks, including an assault on a facility where militants were detained and a car bombing that killed two guards at the Ministry of Oil. In the town of Hilla, about 60 miles south of Baghdad, a pair of suicide bombers wearing vests packed with explosives detonated themselves killing at least 27 people, many of them being police and wounding another 118. More to come on this, this week, I'm sure.......
