Soldiers keep sky straight, pilots safe
Monday, September 28, 2009

.
About above photo: Pfc. Dennis Dickerson, an Air Traffic Controller with the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, observes an AH-64D Apache as it clears the Camp Tiji Control Tower, September 26th.
...........................................................

CAMP TAJI - Day and night, the flight line here is bustling with aircraft coming and going; performing missions essential to the success of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade.
.
The control tower is in charge of the air space 3000 feet above the tower and five nautical miles from the center point of the airfield, according to Staff Sgt. Alfredo Rivera, from Fort Knox, Ky., the facility chief with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment.
.
When his Soldiers are on shift they separate sequenced aircraft based on known and observed traffic, Rivera said, so they know exactly where everything is.
.
"We know where the traffic's at, we observe where it's at and we can sequence the aircraft behind each other or in front of each other," Rivera said. "We separate them via those same means, to get them on the ground, in the air and transitioning through the airspace."
.
Rivera said there is an extensive training program that must be taken before someone can be qualified to work in the control tower.
.
"For the initial guys, the training program is 154 days long, so it's almost a six month program," Rivera said. "The more experienced guys can get certified within five to six days and mid-experience guys take 10 to 14 days."

.
Working in the evenings is where experience pays off, with more traffic on the airfield, Rivera said, which means making the right decisions.
.
"In a two hour period at night we can have between 400 to 800 movements on the airfield," Rivera said. "The biggest thing is sequencing aircraft based on their lights. At night it's more of a positional thing.
.
"We have radar here, but we don't use it," Rivera added. "Everything is based off what we see and what we know. So if I have a guy on three mile [approach] final and another on two mile final, depending on where they're at, I have to sequence them behind each other."
.
Assisting Rivera with these decisions is Pfc. Dennis Dickerson Jr., from Dallas, who is almost at the end of his initial training period and said his responsibilities in the tower vary every day.
.
"I'm responsible for all the aircraft in the air, on the ground ... de-conflicting and sequencing aircraft to keep them from interfering with each other," he said.
.
Dickerson said the six months of training were necessary for him to be in charge of such operations.
.
"I had to take a lot of tests and do a lot of bookwork," Dickerson said. "You have to study the [Federal Aviation Administration] manual and there's a lot of evaluation."
.
This is usually done with the trainer sitting behind you to make sure there are no mistakes, Dickerson said, as the 1st ACB must comply with the same FAA rules as other aviation towers.
.
"Not all rules and regulations are the same, but very similar," Dickerson said.
.
Dickerson, who works a twelve hour shift from noon to midnight, said the main difference between night and day is being able to see everything in the sky during the day.
.
"In the day you can see all your aircraft and that helps out knowing who is who, because you tell what kind of aircraft it is," Dickerson said. "At night you have to rely on pilot's reports more, but sometimes it's better because you can see their lights. That makes it easier to spot them."
.
Dickerson said keeping the aircraft and pilots out of harm's way gives him tremendous satisfaction.

U.S. Troops Cleaning Out 'Garages' in Iraq
Post Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2009
.
American forces are cleaning out a "very, very big garage" in its drawdown in Iraq, the deputy commander of Multinational Corps Iraq said today.
.
Air Force Maj. Gen. James P. Hunt, during a videoconference from Baghdad with Pentagon reporters, said moving equipment out of Iraq is like a giant assessment and cleaning.
.
There are 125,000 American servicemembers in Iraq, down from a peak of roughly 180,000. That number is to remain constant through the Iraqi elections in January. After that, the number of U.S. troops is to drop to 50,000 by August 2010, with all American forces out of the country by the end of 2011.
.
But the drawdown of U.S. forces already has begun with equipment, Hunt said. "We're going to do it just like you do back home when you have to empty out your garage," he said.
.
The command already has closed more than 200 bases and facilities and processed almost 50,000 pieces of equipment.
.
When cleaning the garage, people take the cars out and put everything on the driveway just to see what they have, Hunt said. "And that's what we're doing here," he said. "We essentially have done an inventory, and we have been amazed at how much stuff has gathered in six years."
.
The units are looking at what things they have and deciding what they will need through the end of 2011. "They're packing it up, and they're shipping it out. And we are doing that on a daily basis," he said. "Essentially every base in Iraq is going through their garage and cleaning out what they've got so that they only have the mission- essential things left."
.
As the last troops withdraw from the country, the mission-essential materials will leave with them. "So this is a major science-of-war operation," he said. "It's a very, very big garage."
.
Another sign of the withdrawal was the Sept. 17 closure of the Camp Bucca internment center in southern Iraq, Hunt said.
.
"As part of that closure and in accordance with our security agreement, we have released almost 6,000 detainees and transferred just under 1,400 detainees to Iraq since January 2009," he said. "We have worked closely with the government of Iraq to ensure these releases and transfers were done in a safe and orderly manner."

FBI Continues Ongoing Terror Probe of Alleged Bombing Plot with Suspected Ties to al Qaeda - Update 1

Post Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2009
.

* The Wall Street Journal has the following report posted up on their website this Tuesday and it starts off like this... Federal investigators probing an alleged bombing plot with suspected ties to al Qaeda are trying to track purchases of chemicals that could be used to make explosives, as three men charged as a result of the probe appeared in court Monday... Two officials familiar with the probe said investigators were combing records on the purchases of chemicals, particularly hydrogen peroxide, that could be used to make bombs. Peroxide-based explosives were used in a deadly attack on London's subway and bus system in July 2005, and al Qaeda's interest in such explosives has been a top concern for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for almost two years, according to intelligence assessments made public...

Israel Shall Soon Attack Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

Monday, September 21, 2009 AubreyJ.........
.

Back in a March 31st interview with the Atlantic, (The Atlantic article here) and just hours before his swearing-in, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said if the Islamic Republic is not stopped quickly, Israel may be forced to attack… “You don’t want a messianic, apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs," Netanyahu told the magazine's Jeffrey Goldberg in what the journalist described as "unusually blunt language."
.
Netanyahu also said he would support President Obama’s decision to engage Iran, so long as negotiations brought about a quick end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “How you achieve this goal is less important than achieving it,” he said, but he added that he was skeptical that Iran would respond positively to Obama’s appeals. (As of today... they haven’t either.)
.
Today... Iran is now WELL embarked down the road to achieving Nuclear Weapons. That is a fact and not just me talking either.
.
The way I see it... the End-Game is up. There is nothing left but two choices for Israel now.
.
They can either sit by and let Iran BUILD the nuclear bombs while the West talks about it... (and most of us KNOW that anymore talks with Iran will get us nowhere...) or Strike!
.
I for one believe Israel will NEVER let Iran build the Nuclear Weapons... So I guess it is STRIKE... and strike them hard is what they will/MUST do.
.
Now -- How do I come to this conclusion you ask...? Simple!!! Today... Iran is no longer trying to acquire nuclear knowledge and capability. These things they have already achieved. Even the International Atomic Energy Agency, (the IAEA,) now believes Iran has developed the knowhow and capability to build a Nuclear Weapon.
.
Former Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh is now saying Israel will attack Iran's Nuclear Facilities before year’s end if the West has not launched crippling sanctions by then. (Crippling Sanctions!!!? That’s not going to happen!) Sneh also says a nuclear-armed Iran was an unacceptable threat to Israel. (My point exactly.)
.
Folks... It’s not IF -- but WHEN Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear facilities, and in the VERY near future I might add... it will be done so without a green light from the United States.
.
That’s not a shocker either for hell... who could possibly believe Obama has the cahoots to approve such a thing anyway! Israel surely doesn’t. So why would anyone expect Israel to ask for approval... in advance. Simply put... Israel would much rather explain what went down after the fact than ask the Obama Administration for any approval beforehand.
.
Sadly... Obama is one of the weakest Presidents the world has ever seen, and I believe the only good he could possibly do in all this mess, (and I believe in the end he and the left will end up SCREWING it up too...) would be help mop-up the political mess after Israel takes care of its and the World’s business.
.
I’ll end with this... No one knows for sure where Israel will strike or WHEN. That’s a GOOD thing!
.
I for one do believe though that wiping out all of Iran's capabilities to enrich uranium is just about impossible. But that’s OK... The effects of even a limited air attack would most likely be good enough to be extremely devastating to the Iranian’s Nuclear Program and not just a short-term setback either... as some in the West believe.
.
Who knows!!! Just maybe... with the NEW unrest and uprisings within Iran since their summer elections, (see latest Iranian protest videos from Friday, September 18, 2009
HERE,) Israel’s attack just might help in the final collapse of the leaders of Iran who are in power today. Now wouldn’t THAT be something!!!
.
That’s it my friends... say what you may... But I say- Israel Shall Soon Attack Iran’s Nuclear Facilities. Talk to the hand, Obama!!!

.
God’s Speed, Israel on having a highly successful mission!
I say this, today... for I do not believe we have many Months or Years to wait... but rather just so many days left before Israel does what they MUST do to defend their Homeland...

Congressman Joe Wilson Says No More Apologies From Him, On House Floor Or Anywhere Else - 'One Apology Is Sufficient'

Official Joe Wilson photo portrait from U.S. Congress
...

Post Date: Sunday, September 13, 2009
USAToday.com has the following report posted up on their website this Sunday afternoon and it starts off like this... The House of Representatives appears headed for a vote to formally rebuke Rep. Joe Wilson this week for heckling President Obama after the South Carolina Republican refused Sunday to apologize on the House floor... "The House likely will take up a resolution," Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told USA TODAY. "He violated the decorum of the House; it has to be resolved in the House."... Daly's comments came after Wilson said on Fox News Sunday that he would not deliver a speech of apology on the House floor that some of his Democratic colleagues demanded... "I have apologized to the president," he said. "I believe that is sufficient."...

House may vote on formal rebuke for Rep. Wilson outburst
.
Fox News has this take on all of this and is well worth reading...
Rep. Joe Wilson said Sunday that he will not apologize on the House floor for his outburst during President Obama's health care address, even though Democratic leaders have threatened to formally discipline him if he does not... Wilson noted that he already apologized directly to the White House after shouting, "You lie," to the president during his Wednesday address to a joint session of Congress. The outburst triggered a political firestorm, but Wilson told "FOX News Sunday" that Democrats are just "playing politics" by trying to drag out the issue and force another apology... "I've apologized one time. The apology was accepted by the president, the vice president. ... I am not apologizing again," he told "FOX News Sunday." "I believe that is sufficient."... Wilson said he would "never do something like that again," but continued to defend himself...

Don’t give in to them, Congressman Wilson. We got your back out here in the Homeland!
Thank you for standing firm on the truth too...
I believe any forced apologies from here on out, by anyone or group, is just BAD Politics... So hang in there and stand firm... for all of us!
