My Take:

Romney’s Rescue of 2002 Olympics and Situation of the Time
.
I believe the one thing that hardly ever gets mentioned about Mitt Romney’s rescue of the 2002 Olympics is the situation of the time. That it all went down so soon after 9/11 and that the overall security of the Nation was still not yet sure.
.
The 2002 Utah Winter Olympics in the end did become a huge success. In fact it was one of the most successful Olympic Games ever! That’s something that cannot be spun as non-fact either. And this success even came after so many worries and after all the bad writings and broadcast news during this time over the overall security, cost, and if there would be any kind of success at all of this grand event.
.
Fortunately for all, Mitt Romney took this disaster by the horns and brought it back from between a 300 to 400 million dollar deficit and turned it around into a 100 million dollar surplus. Not too shabby, Mitt -- not too shabby at all!
.
I know not about you, but I remember this time in history very well. I remember that when all was said and spun, the 2002 Winter Olympics brought us so much pride to this, (at the time,) wounded country of ours.
.
It really was a great time in the history of our great country, even after so much pain, suffering and fear had been brought down upon us not so many months before.
.
In the heading of my Blog I write:
.
No matter what your political views might be... One thing is for certain. In these days of fast news and even faster life styles... We all seem to have forgotten those moments in history that so abruptly and tragically changed this beloved Country of ours... 9/11… How soon we forget…
.
Funny how that holds so true, even after just under eleven years has passed us by, since that tragic day. It also holds true to the forgetfulness of most people on how things really were during those first few days, weeks, months and first years thereafter.
.
Bottom line… Mitt, job well done sir, and thank you.

Sunday, July 29, 2012
.
* The Guardian brings us the following report this early Sunday afternoon and it starts off like this… Mitt Romney has made a staunch declaration of unity with Israel against the Iranian nuclear threat, pledging that the US “will not look away” in the face of an existential challenge faced by the Jewish state… In his first foreign policy speech, delivered against the dramatic backdrop of the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City, the presumptive Republican candidate insisted that the US must use “any and all measures” to prevent a nuclear Iran…

.
* JPOST.com has this report that goes in part like this. …Addressing Iran, Romney said that the US has a “solemn duty” not to let Iran’s leaders act on their malevolent intentions toward Israel. He stated that history teaches that when despotic regimes secure weapons, peace gives way to violence… Romney added that while he hopes diplomatic measures and economic sanctions will stop Iran’s nuclear drive, no option should be excluded to stop a nuclear Iran…

POST UPDATE:
Mitt Concluded Three-Nation International Tour on Tuesday
Monday, July 31, 2012
.
* The Washington Post has the following report posted on their website this Monday afternoon and it starts off like this… Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney concluded his three-nation international tour on Tuesday with a speech that praised Poland as a beacon of conservative economic ideas in Europe, then used a television interview to try to explain earlier controversial comments in Israel… Romney had seemed to suggest during a speech at a Jerusalem fundraiser that the economy of the Palestinian territories lagged behind Israel’s in part because of “culture.” The former Massachusetts governor said in a Fox News Channel interview Tuesday that he “did not speak about the Palestinian culture or the decisions made in their economy.”… “That’s an interesting topic that perhaps could deserve scholarly analysis, but I actually didn’t address that. Certainly don’t intend to address that during my campaign,” he said, according to a partial transcript released by Fox News Channel. “Instead, I will point out are that the choices a society makes have a profound impact on the economy and the vitality of that society.”…

President Obama Announces Debt Plan Built on Taxing Rich - "This is not class warfare -- it's math" he says

Monday, September 19, 2011
.
* ABC News brings us the following AP report and it starts off like this… In a blunt rejoinder to congressional Republicans, President Barack Obama called for $1.5 trillion in new taxes Monday, part of a total 10-year deficit reduction package totaling more than $3 trillion. [Well who the heck didn’t know this one was coming -- AGAIN… And will never, EVER pass the Senate.] He vowed to veto any deficit reduction package that cuts benefits to Medicare recipients but does not raise taxes on the wealthy and big corporations… "We can't just cut our way out of this hole," the president said… The president's proposal would predominantly hit upper income taxpayers but would also reduce spending in mandatory benefit programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, by $580 billion. It also counts savings of $1 trillion over 10 years from the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan…

.
* CBS News reports it this way… Taking a defiant tone against Republicans unwilling to raise taxes in order to close the deficit, President Obama today unveiled a $3 trillion long-term deficit reduction plan that relies heavily on raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans… "This is not class warfare -- it's math," Mr. Obama said from the White House Rose Garden…

U.S. Investigates Terrorist Attack: Updated

U.S. Investigates Terrorist  Attack - Department of Homeland Security Kicks Aviation Security up a Notch
Friday, October 29, 2010
.
Good Friday afternoon everyone... I see that the men and women in charge of our Homeland security are still on their toes. That must mean President Obama and the Dems haven’t gone and screwed everything up... Yet!!!
.
Here’s what we got so far on this possible threat...
.
Authorities in Dubai intercepted an explosive device bound for a Chicago-area Jewish institution aboard a cargo jet, officials disclosed Friday, triggering a worldwide alert and fears that al-Qaida was attempting to carry out fresh terror attack... A second package - like the first, shipped from Yemen - was discovered aboard a plane in England. It, too, was addressed to a Jewish organization in the Chicago area, although there was no immediate confirmation about its contents... Several other cargo planes at airports along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States also were searched, and officials said no explosives were found. An Emirates Airlines passenger jet carrying cargo from Yemen was escorted from the Canadian border to New York City by two military fighter jets, U.S. officials said. They said it was a precautionary action... President Barack Obama arranged to make a statement about the developments at the White House. Aides said he had been informed about a "potential terrorist threat."...

The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release
October 29, 2010
Statement of White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs
Last night, intelligence and law enforcement agencies discovered potential suspicious packages on two planes in transit to the United States. Based on close cooperation among U.S. government agencies and with our foreign allies and partners, authorities were able to identify and examine two suspicious packages, one in East Midlands, United Kingdom, and one in Dubai. Both of these packages originated from Yemen. As a result of security precautions triggered by this threat, the additional measures were taken regarding the flights at Newark Liberty and Philadelphia International Airports.
.
The President was notified of a potential terrorist threat on Thursday night at 10:35, by John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism. The President directed U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies, and the Department of Homeland Security, to take steps to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and to determine whether these threats are a part of any additional terrorist plotting. The President has received regular updates from his national security team since he was alerted to the threat.

Official Joe Wilson photo portrait from U.S. Congress
...

Post Date: Sunday, September 13, 2009
USAToday.com has the following report posted up on their website this Sunday afternoon and it starts off like this... The House of Representatives appears headed for a vote to formally rebuke Rep. Joe Wilson this week for heckling President Obama after the South Carolina Republican refused Sunday to apologize on the House floor... "The House likely will take up a resolution," Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told USA TODAY. "He violated the decorum of the House; it has to be resolved in the House."... Daly's comments came after Wilson said on Fox News Sunday that he would not deliver a speech of apology on the House floor that some of his Democratic colleagues demanded... "I have apologized to the president," he said. "I believe that is sufficient."...

House may vote on formal rebuke for Rep. Wilson outburst
.
Fox News has this take on all of this and is well worth reading...
Rep. Joe Wilson said Sunday that he will not apologize on the House floor for his outburst during President Obama's health care address, even though Democratic leaders have threatened to formally discipline him if he does not... Wilson noted that he already apologized directly to the White House after shouting, "You lie," to the president during his Wednesday address to a joint session of Congress. The outburst triggered a political firestorm, but Wilson told "FOX News Sunday" that Democrats are just "playing politics" by trying to drag out the issue and force another apology... "I've apologized one time. The apology was accepted by the president, the vice president. ... I am not apologizing again," he told "FOX News Sunday." "I believe that is sufficient."... Wilson said he would "never do something like that again," but continued to defend himself...

Don’t give in to them, Congressman Wilson. We got your back out here in the Homeland!
Thank you for standing firm on the truth too...
I believe any forced apologies from here on out, by anyone or group, is just BAD Politics... So hang in there and stand firm... for all of us!

The following is from the White House Blog
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Signed, sealed, delivered: ARRA
.
The economic recovery package is essential for our nation's economy, for its infrastructure, and for our energy, health, and education needs -- and now it's the law. After months of planning and weeks of negotiation, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act today in Denver, CO.
.
"What I am signing is a balanced plan with a mix of tax cuts and investments. It is a plan that’s been put together without earmarks or the usual pork barrel spending. And it is a plan that will be implemented with an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability," President Obama said before signing the bill into law. "And we expect you, the American people, to hold us accountable for the results. That is why we have created Recovery.gov – so every American can go online and see how their money is being spent."
.
That site, Recovery.gov, is now live. You can go there to see projections -- based on language in the legislation -- of where your money will go, broken down state-by-state. And over the coming weeks and months, as the funds start to go out, you'll be able to see far more detailed information.
.
It's just the beginning of a long process, of course -- on Air Force One today, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called it "a strong start towards economic viability."
.
"Our American story is not -- and has never been -- about things coming easy," the President said in his remarks at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. "It’s about rising to the moment when the moment is hard, converting crisis into opportunity, and seeing to it that we emerge from whatever trials we face stronger than we were before."
.
>Before the signing, President Obama toured the museum's solar panel installation.

In Newly Released Audio Tape, Al-Qaeda’s No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri Says Iraq Brought Only ‘Failure and Defeat’ for White House

Al-Qaeda’s No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri Says...
Iraq Brought Only ‘Failure and Defeat’ for White House
Friday
, April 18, 2008

CBSNews.com had this article up early this morning and it starts off like this... Al Qaeda's No. 2 man claimed in a new audiotape released on a militant Web site early Friday that that five years of U.S. occupation of Iraq brought only "failure and defeat," which the Bush administration will pass on as a "problem" to the next American president... In the recording, Ayman al-Zawahri alleged that by acting on the advice of his top commanders in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, and halting further U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq until after July, U.S. President George W. Bush was "covering up for the failure" of his Iraq policies...
Al Qaeda Deputy: Iraq War Is A Failure

* IHT.com has this take on the Audio today... Al-Qaida's No. 2 said in an audiotape released Friday that the United States will lose whether it stays in Iraq or withdraws, and he sneered that U.S. President George W. Bush just wants to pass the problem on to his successor... The message from Ayman al-Zawahri released early Friday on a militant Web site appeared to be one of the most quickly prepared tapes produced by al-Qaida...

White House Dismisses Report of Iran Attack Plans saying Diplomacy is still "the best solution''

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow Resigning September 14th

President Bush Announces Resignation of Press Secretary Tony Snow, and Names Dana Perino as Press Secretary
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. Good afternoon to you.

Tony Snow informed me he's leaving. And I sadly accept his desire to leave the White House, and he'll do so on September the 14th. He is -- it's been a joy to watch him spar with you. He's smart, he's capable, he's witty. He's capable of -- he's able to talk about issues in a way that the American people can understand.

And I don't know what he's going to do -- I'm not sure he does yet, either. But whatever it is, it's going to be -- two things: One, he'll battle cancer and win. And secondly, he'll be a solid contributor to society.

I do want to thank Jill and Kendall, Robbie and Kristi. They have watched a man they love take on a big job, and at the same time, fight disease -- with a lot of courage. And so I accept, I love you, and I wish you all the best.

And so I had to make a choice, who to replace Tony, and I've chosen Dana Perino. I did so because Dana is a smart, capable person who is able to spell out the issues of the day in a way that people listening on TV can understand. She can handle you all. She's capable of handling your questions...

White House take on Muqtada al Sadr's urging followers to rise up against U.S. forces in Iraq and on Sadr’s call for massive protests

April 9, 2007
The following was taken from a
Press Gaggle by Gordon Johndroe early this Monday morning aboard Air Force One in route to Yuma, Arizona...

Question: Have you got any reaction to Muqtada al Sadr's urging his followers to rise up against the U.S. forces in Iraq?

Mr. Johndroe: You know, the reports I've seen are that Sadr has urged his various militias, who are, again I remind everyone, operating outside the rule of law in Iraq, to not fight Iraqi security forces. And I think this sort of comment is not surprising, given these Iraqi security forces are having some success against the Jaish al Mahdi militias. And so we, the United States, and you heard Prime Minister Maliki say, everyone operating outside the rule of law need to -- will be dealt with.

And I note today that Sadr called for massive protests. I'm not sure that we've seen that, those numbers materialize and the numbers that he was seeking in his call from his hangout in Iran. But Iraq, four years on, is now a place where people can freely gather and express their opinions. And that was something they could not do under Saddam. And while we have much more progress ahead of us -- the United States, the coalition and Iraqis have much more to do -- this is a country that has come a long way from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein...

Senate Panel Now Joins House Subcommittee in Authorizing Subpoenas

A Senate panel probing the firing of eight U.S. attorneys joined a House subcommittee in authorizing subpoenas to compel testimony by Karl Rove, President George W. Bush's top political adviser, and other White House officials... The Senate Judiciary Committee today gave its chairman, Democrat Patrick Leahy of Vermont, power to issue the subpoenas -- thwarting a bid by Republicans to delay the move... Republican committee members expressed displeasure with the president's plan to only permit the questioning of White House aides in private without any official transcript. But they urged the panel to seek a compromise before proceeding with subpoenas...
