Iraqi Security Forces arrested a Jaysh al-Mahdi (JAM) leader and three suspected criminal accomplices today in southeastern Baghdad during a joint security operation.
Acting upon joint security team intelligence, ISF and U.S. advisors searched a residential building in Sadr City where the suspected JAM leader was located.
The JAM leader is suspected of facilitating the transportation of explosives and weaponry from Iran into Iraq, specifically into Baghdad. The individual is believed to be staging multiple attacks on security forces in Iraq.
Based on preliminary questioning and evidence found on the premises, Iraqi Police identified and arrested the JAM suspect and three criminal accomplices without incident.
