Israel has rejected demands, made by the Palestinian militants holding an Israeli soldier, to release 1,000 prisoners and halt all military offensives in Gaza. Meanwhile... Israel keeps up military pressure on the Palestinians, launching new airstrikes throughout Gaza for a fourth straight night and firing artillery rounds at the southern and northern parts of the coastal strip from tanks and navy gunboats. CBSNEWS.com is reporting today... In Washington, President Bush spoke with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who initiated the call, Saturday morning about the situation in Gaza. They discussed their concerns about the current crisis and Mr. Bush said the initial goal should be freeing the Israeli soldier. BBC News is now reporting... A gun battle has erupted between Hamas militants and Israeli troops in Gaza in one of the worst clashes since Israel launched an offensive there on Tuesday.
