The Palestinian Hamas government has called for a cease-fire by militants and Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip after nearly two weeks of fighting that has left about 40 Palestinians dead. A statement Saturday by Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh urges Palestinian militants and Israeli forces to halt military operations in Gaza and return to calm. Read story in full HERE

The Jerusalem Post just reported... An explosion in a home in the Sajiyeh neighborhood on the outskirts of Gaza City Saturday night resulted in the deaths of at least six people, witnesses at the scene said. Some reports put the number of dead at as low as two people dead... According to hospital officials, a six-year-old girl was among the dead, while another six people were wounded. The IDF responded to initial accusations that an IDF shell had struck the house by saying that it had not been firing in the direction of the house at the time of the incident... Let’s see-- Kentucky.com is reporting... Palestinian witnesses said Israeli tanks moved into an abandoned Israeli settlement in northern Gaza early Sunday, a day after pulling back. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert remains firm in his opposition to a prisoner exchange deal to obtain the release of IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit, distancing himself from statements released last week by Public Security Minister Avi Dichter.
