The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sgt. Edward W. Shaffer, 23, of Mont Alto, Pa., died December 27th at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, of injuries sustained on November 13th in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated nearby. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.
