Pakistani authorities and pro-Taliban Tribal Elders of a troubled region bordering Afghanistan on Monday signed a peace deal under which the latter agreed not to provide protection or shelter to foreign militants... The deal was signed in Bajaur, one of Pakistan’s seven federally administered tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, where Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri escaped an airstrike in January 2006... A government official in Bajaur said the deal was signed after a week long fighting between foreign militants and local tribals in the area that left over 130 people, most of them foreign militants, dead...

FOXnews.com has this story today that goes in part like this... Malik Abdul Aziz, head of Bajur's tribal council, said the latest agreement was signed during a ceremony on Monday attended by about 700 tribal elders and government officials near the main town of Khar... Aziz said local militants have assured they would not allow any foreigners to use their soil for attacks against Pakistani troops or coalition forces across the border... "I am confident that yesterday's deal will go a long way to restoring peace here," he said...
