Sixteen servicemembers were on board the CH-47 Chinook helicopter that crashed in mountainous terrain west of Asadabad, Afghanistan, June 28, military officials said Thursday and all where found dead. Original reports had said 17 servicemembers were on the aircraft. Initial reports also indicate that the crash may have been caused by hostile fire and now that too has been confirmed. Witnesses reported that an enemy fired rocket propelled grenade had indeed struck the helicopter. There were Special Operations Troops on board this Chinook Helicopter being dispatched to assist in an anti-terrorist operation. As of Thursday this operation was still ongoing.
