>>> Telegraph.co.uk is reporting that a government source said that Abdullahi Yusuf, the president of Somalia, was inside Villa Somalia in Mogadishu when five mortar rounds hit after dusk last night. Suspected rebels from the deposed Islamic Courts Union then launched an assault on the compound before being beaten back by his guards in a 20-minute battle... The attack came as gunfire and explosions were heard across the capital, the most spectacular violence since Mr. Yusuf took up residence in Mogadishu 11 days ago...

Last Major Somalia Warlord Surrenders Weapons and Militia to the army
The last major warlord in Somalia surrendered his weapons and over 200 militiamen to the army today... In a major step toward helping the fledgling government consolidate power, one of the most feared warlords in Somalia, Mohamed Dheere, gave the army chief 23 trucks mounted with heavy weapons and ordered 220 of his fighters to report for retraining at government camps...
