Hurricane Dean Update

7:00am CDT

Dean is beginning to strengthen over the Bay of Campeche and is expected to make landfall later today.

As of 7:00 AM CDT the center of Hurricane Dean was located near Latitude 20.5 North... Longitude 95.5 West... or about 100 miles North-Northeast of Veracruz Mexico and about 120 miles East-Southeast of Tuxpan Mexico...


Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 90 MPH with higher gust and is a Category One Hurricane. Some strengthening is possible prior to landfall.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 200 miles.

The Minimum Central Pressure Pressure was recorded by an Air Force Reserve Unit Reconnaissance Aircraft at 976 MB... 28.82 Inches..

Dean is now a Category Two Hurricane and is packing winds near 100 MPH. Hurricane Dean is expected to make landfall within the next few hours...

Dean has now Moved Inland over Mexico and is beginning to weaken...

Dean is now a Category One Hurricane. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 MPH.
Continued weakening is expected until Dean DISSIPATES over the mountains of Central Mexico tonight.
