Update #4 Monday, April 02, 2007 - Day Eleven: 15 British Sailors and Marines Captured by Iran

Forbes.com website has this story today and it starts off like this... Iranian state radio reported that all 15 British sailors and marines held captive by Iran have confessed to illegally entering Iranian waters but, in an apparent softening in the dispute, said their statements would not air because of "positive changes" from Britain... In London, an official said Britain has agreed to consider discussing with Iran how to avoid future disputes over contested waters in the Persian Gulf...

Death Sentence Sought Against Chemical Ali

The chief prosecutor in the Anfal case urged the judge on Monday to hand down a death sentence against Ali Hassan al-Majid, better known as Chemical Ali for his role in planning the gas attack that killed thousands of Kurds in Halabja, northeastern Iraq... Majid, Saddam Hussein's cousin and former aide, is on trial with five co-defendants: Taher al-Aani, former governor of Ninawa, Saber Abdul-Aziz al-Dori, former director of military intelligence, Sultan Hashim, former defense minister, Hussein Rashid al-Tikriti, formerly of the armed forces' central command, and former intelligence official Farhan al-Motlak al-Juburi...

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died March 29th in North Kabul, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered during a non-combat related vehicle accident on March 28 in North Kabul. Their deaths are under investigation.

Killed were:
Sgt. Edmund W. McDonald, 25, of Casco, Maine.
Spc. Agustin Gutierrez, 19, of San Jacinto, Calif.

Both soldiers were assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. For more information in regard to this release the media can contact the 82nd Airborne Division public affairs office at (910) 432-0661.

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldiers died from wounds suffered March 31st in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Killed were:
Staff Sgt. Jason R. Arnette, 24, of Amelia, Va. He died April 1st in Baghdad, Iraq.
Spc. Wilfred Flores Jr., 20, of Lawton, Okla. He died March 31st in Baghdad, Iraq.

21 Al-Qaida Members Killed Near Syrian Border Sunday

Iraqi security forces, backed by Sunni tribesmen, clashed Sunday with a united of al-Qaida fighters near the Syrian border, killing at least 21 members of the terrorist organization, police said... The fighting, near the border town of Qaim in Anbar province began after midnight and lasted several hours...
