The following is a statement from NASA Administrator Charles Bolden regarding the death of former test pilot and NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong. He was 82.
.
"On behalf of the entire NASA family, I would like to express my deepest condolences to Carol and the rest of Armstrong family on the passing of Neil Armstrong. As long as there are history books, Neil Armstrong will be included in them, remembered for taking humankind's first small step on a world beyond our own.

Israel: On Ground Updates - August 24, 2012

Israel: On Ground Updates
Israel unlikely to provide much if any advance notice to the U.S. if it attacks Iran's Nuclear Facilities - Iran adds many more Uranium Enrichment Machines at its Underground Bunker in Fordow - New Satellite Imagery shows Iran covered suspected Nuclear Site Building at Parchin - Plus Charles Krauthammer’s take

* USA Today brings us the following report and it starts off like this… Israel is unlikely to provide much if any advance notice to the United States if it attacks Iran's nuclear facilities, Middle East experts say… Advance warning is important because a surprise could hurt the United States' ability to respond and safeguard its many assets in the Persian Gulf… The assumption is that U.S. warning of an Israeli attack would come "significantly less than an hour" before it began, said Jon Alterman, director of the Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "How much of that would come from Israeli notification and how much would come from sensors we have in the region, I don't know."…

.
* JPost.com has this report this late Thursday afternoon and it goes in part like this. In a possible sign of further Iranian defiance in the face of such pressure, several sources said Iran had put in place additional enrichment centrifuges in its Fordow facility, buried deep inside a mountain to protect it against enemy strikes… One source suggested hundreds of machines had been installed… In another development likely to worry the West, they said satellite imagery indicated Iran had covered a building at a military site which UN inspectors want to visit with a brightly-colored, tent-like structure…

* MercuryNews.com has the great read by Charles Krauthammer today that starts off like this… Either Israel is engaged in the most elaborate ruse since the Trojan Horse or it is on the cusp of a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities…

Taking a Moment to Honor our Fallen Heroes

Since that tragic day on 9-11-2001… many of our bravest have given their all while fighting for this great country of ours. Please take a moment to thank them, in your own way, for all they have done and were willing to do for you -- me and this great country of ours. May God bless each and every one of these fallen Heroes, all of those who have been wounded, all of their families, friends, loved ones and their comrades in arms who were at their side.

Never forget those that protect us -- Each and every day...

* The Telegraph had the following troubling news Sunday Afternoon and it starts of like this… Israel declared that international talks with Iran on its nuclear program had failed as it demanded a deadline of "just a few weeks" be handed down to Tehran to scrap its atomic build-up... It emerged that new intelligence shared with Israel by the West indicated that Iran had moved several steps closer to developing a nuclear warhead that could be fitted on the Shahab-3 missile… According to an unidentified official, new intelligence obtained by Israel, the United States and other Western states shows that Iran's development of a nuclear weapon is progressing far beyond the scope reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency

* FT.com had this take on the news out of Israel Sunday… After months of relative quiet, speculation over an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities is once again sharply on the rise… According to a series of leaks and anonymous briefings to the Israeli media over the past days, senior leaders in Jerusalem are discussing the prospect of a military strike with greater urgency than ever. One report even suggested that the prime minister and defence minister are now advocating an attack before the US presidential election in November…

* The New York Times had this report posted on their website late Sunday and it goes in part like this. …Referring to the Iran negotiations led by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany, the [Israeli] Minister, Danny Ayalon, told Israel Radio that those nations should “declare today that the talks have failed.” After such a declaration, if Iran does not halt its nuclear program, “it will be clear that all options are on the table,” Mr. Ayalon said, not only for Israel, but also for the United States and NATO… Asked how long the Iranians should be given to cease all nuclear activity, Mr. Ayalon said “weeks, and not more than that.… The comments came after a frenzy of newspaper articles and television reports over the weekend here suggesting that Mr. Netanyahu had all but made the decision to attack Iran unilaterally this fall…

* Boston.com had this AP report posted up on their website Sunday and this report goes in part like this. …One indirect indication came Sunday, when Israel's military began sending mock text messages to cellphones warning of incoming missiles, part of a nationwide experiment that is to continue through Thursday and reach hundreds of thousands of cellphone users. Last week, defense officials confirmed that Israel's top-tier missile defense system has been upgraded… "All threats directed at the Israeli home front are dwarfed by another threat, different in its magnitude and substance, and so I have repeated and shall repeat: Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet on Sunday…

* JPOST.com reports… Iran is disturbed by threats emanating from Israel to strike its nuclear sites and takes such threats seriously, a senior Iran expert told The Jerusalem Post…

* UPI.com brings us the following report this early Monday morning and it goes in part like this. …Maariv [an Israeli Newspaper] said it was told by sources that if Israel decided to conduct a military strike on Iran's nuclear sites prior to the American presidential elections in November, President Barack Obama would order the U.S. military to support Israel… The U.S. Army would provide a "defense umbrella" to counter possible missile attacks by Iran and its allies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, the newspaper said…

-- Here are a few more reports on topic --
- World.Time.comIf the White House believes November will arrive without any nasty surprises in the Iran nuclear standoff, it is not taking seriously the feverish chatter throughout Israel‘s media positing an imminent Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic…
- The Times of IsraelPM believes Iran’s regime is aiming to ‘destroy the Jewish people,’ does not think Obama will resort to force. Nuclear drive ‘further ahead’ than previously thought. In a year, Israeli action could have only ‘negligible effect’…

* Bloomberg brings us the following report that starts off like this… Dozens of Israelis crowded in front of a storefront at a Jerusalem shopping mall yesterday to pick up new gas masks, part of civil defense preparations in case the military strikes Iran and the Islamic Republic or its allies retaliate… “Our leaders seem to have gotten very hawkish in their speeches and this time it seems they mean what they say,” said Yoram Lands, 68, a professor of business administration, who was picking up new masks for himself and his wife at a distribution center in the mall…
