During a speech today at the 85th Anniversary Celebration of the Iraqi Army, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Iraqi forces would launch a new effort, with the support of U.S. Troops, to take back control of Baghdad's neighborhoods from the militias and other sectarian killers...

In this new assault... Iraqi and U.S. forces will be going neighborhood-to-neighborhood, taking out the Sunni Insurgents and Shiite Death Squads.

This will be a top news story for days to come. As of Saturday, 2:10pm CST not much is being reported but that will change as nighttime falls here in the States.

According to Iraq state television reports... a firefight has been reported in central Baghdad between Iraq/U.S forces and the Insurgents/Death Squads . At least 30 militants have already been killed and eight arrested, including five Sudanese...

Hassan al-Suneid, a key aid and member of al-Maliki's Dawa Party, said the Iraqi leader had committed 20,000 soldiers to the operation that would call upon American troops and airpower only when needed...
