You ready???
Let’s get caught up with the Haynesville Shale News....
* MarketWatch.com has this report up on their website today and it goes in part like this...
HAYNESVILLE SHALE ACTIVITY UPDATE- The Company has completed the T. Swiley No. 5 well in the northwest portion of the Minden field in Rusk County, Texas. The well is a vertical Haynesville Shale test with an initial production rate of 1,300 Mcf per day from approximately 150' of net Haynesville Shale pay. The well is the fourth vertical well the Company has drilled and tested in the Haynesville Shale formation in the Minden and Beckville fields in East Texas, where the Company maintains a 100% working interest in approximately 39,000 net acres. The Company's initial horizontal Haynesville Shale test in East Texas is planned for the fourth quarter of 2008...

* Bloomberg.com has this report and it goes in part like this...
Massive Amounts- One shale formation, the Haynesville Shale in Louisiana and Texas, may hold enough gas to meet U.S. demand for a decade, according to Chesapeake Chief Executive Officer Aubrey McClendon... “What the hedge-fund community has been concerned about is you have massive amounts of natural gas,” said Scott Gieselman, the managing partner at Natural Gas Partners, a private-equity firm in Houston. “The amount of discoveries over the past five months has been prolific.”... Vince White, a vice president at Oklahoma City-based Devon Energy Corp., said investors have “some unrealistic optimism” about Haynesville. It will take at least 10 years to develop the formation, pipelines and related infrastructure, he said...

* Fort Worth Business Press has the following report that goes in part like this... Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey K. McClendon said the Fayetteville deal, as well as a July 1 deal to sell Haynesville Shale holdings to Houston-based Plains Exploration & Production Co., will pay for future development of other shale plays. McClendon also said he would look at additional future sales... “The PXP Haynesville Shale joint venture and the BP Fayetteville Shale joint venture together will pay for approximately $2.5 billion of Chesapeake’s drilling and completion expenditures currently planned for the second half of 2008 through 2010,” McClendon said in the statement. “As previously announced, we are also pursuing a similar transaction involving our Marcellus Shale assets with others in the industry that we hope to complete by year-end 2008.”...

* The Shreveport Time had this Article posted on their website a couple days back and it starts off like this... Two recent news reports highlight the fact that now is the time to prepare for some of the upcoming challenges that will come along with the benefits of the massive Haynesville Shale natural gas play... The discovery of the Haynesville Shale pumped nearly $100 million into Louisiana's general fund in August, with more expected in September when 11,000 more acres of state lands are up for lease... In a Baton Rouge Advocate report, north Louisiana legislators point to poor central and north Louisiana parishes that are in need of roads and infrastructure. They also note areas that need to protect underground water aquifers that could be affected by the considerable water needs that accompany drilling. One lawmaker wants to invest the funds into finishing Interstate 49 in both north and south Louisiana... Our opinion: the oil and gas companies drilling here should be responsible for their share of impact on roads, water and the environment...

* RedOrbit.com had the following article up on Sep 1st and it starts off like this... Rising energy prices have made exploiting many of Arkansas' natural resources more viable, and many of those resources are in south Arkansas... "The price of energy commodities always renews interest in Arkansas' resources," said Ed Ratchford, senior petroleum geologist at the Arkansas Geological Survey... "Arkansas is rich in fossil fuels and has a long history of production of fossil fuels."... Recent developments prompting increased interest in energy production in south Arkansas include:
- Improved technology that could make mining deposits of lignite, a low-grade form of coal, economically feasible.
- New technology that could allow energy companies to reach the roughly 70 percent of oil believed to remain beneath the surface of the area's fields.
- Indications that the Haynesville Shale Play, a natural gas shale play beneath northwest Louisiana and cast Texas, may extend into south Arkansas.
- Identification of the Ouachita Mountains as a possible source of natural gas...

Locked in shale, riches beckon - Energy services companies among those eager to tackle natural gas work
.
* Now here’s an article I loved reading (if for no other reason than from what part of the world it came from,) at TheNational.ae website. This article was posted on Aug 30th and it starts off like this... While Americans fret about their growing dependence on foreign oil, few seem to have noticed an upswing in domestic gas output... And this unexpected surge could pave the way for the world’s biggest energy consumer to become self sufficient in natural gas – years after US production was widely believed to have peaked... Since the beginning of last year, US gas production has grown 8.4 per cent while oil production has stayed flat... The nation’s gas producers have not waited for politicians to tell them to drill. They have been drilling flat out for the past 18 months, with new gas wells being developed at more than twice the rate they were in 2002... The upturn in US gas output has been all the more surprising following nine years of flat production. Even more remarkably, it has largely resulted from producers tapping hitherto untouched gas deposits. Some of the new resources – found in large shale beds – are in parts of the US that have previously seen little if any hydrocarbon development...
