American-born Muslim Cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, the public face of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has been killed… So says the Yemeni Defense Ministry in a statement on one of its websites, EARLY this Friday morning stateside, September 30, 2011. The Yemeni Ministry provided no other details in statement.

In another statement… the Yemeni Government says al-Awlaki was targeted and killed five miles from the town of Kashef in Yemen’s northern Jawf province, 87 miles east of the capital Sanaa. The attack, the statement said, was launched at 9:55am, local time.

Khan had become a rising figure in jihadist propaganda and an "aspiring" Awlaki, according to U.S. intelligence officials…

- FOX News has the following report this Sunday evening and it starts off like this… The U.S. Justice Department gave the approval to the CIA to kill Anwar al-Awlaki, the charismatic U.S.-born cleric who orchestrated Al Qaeda recruitment from Yemen, by justifying his killing as an act of self-defense, a U.S. official told Fox News… The official said Sunday that a secret memo between the DOJ and CIA placed al-Awlaki on a kill or capture list, which laid out the case that al-Awlaki was not entitled to the same protections as a U.S. citizen, but rather a combatant targeting U.S. citizens…
