The Washington Post... one of the most influential newspapers in the United States and particularly on Capitol Hill - ran an editorial on Sunday titled: "A Natural Choice". The piece looks at natural gas from an environmental point-of-view. It begins:
.
"In America's climate debate, one of the most promising developments of recent months has been the growing recognition in Washington that natural gas may play a key role in curbing carbon emissions."
.
The editors make the case for increasing the amount of electricity which is produced by natural gas -- and shutting down older, less efficient, and more polluting coal-fired plants.
.
"Existing gas-fired plants are running at only about 25 percent capacity, in part because many are switched on only when demand spikes...doubling the use of existing plants could replace about a third of coal-fired power."
.
There is now so much natural gas available in North America that using it for "base load" electricity generation -- instead of reserving it for "peaking" when demand for power is highest -- now makes economic and environmental sense...

Army,
.
Washington, DC might have been hit with a record snowstorm last week but it’s not stopping us! We’ve had some great accomplishments I want to tell you about. More people are taking notice of our need to get off foreign oil and onto our own resources.
.
Last week the Western Governors' Association (WGA)—a non-partisan organization of 22 governors representing 19 U.S. states and 3 U.S. Territories—called upon Congress to make it a priority to pass legislation that would include incentives for the development and use of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and NGV infrastructure.
.
In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signed by WGA's chairman and vice chairman, Govs. Brian Schweitzer (D-MT) and C.L. "Butch" Otter (R-ID), they wrote:
.
“In addition to providing critical support for job growth in America, further development of NGVs and NGV infrastructure will help reduce our national trade deficit and dependence on oil from unstable and unfriendly regimes. Like members of Congress, we are concerned about how the staggering trade deficits impact America’s economic growth and prosperity, and a large portion of our nation’s trade deficit is attributable directly to the importation of oil. Every day the United States spends billions of dollars overseas in the form of oil payments that could be spent here, in America, employing our citizens and boosting the health of our economy. America's continued dependence on foreign oil represents a clear threat to our economic health and security.”
.
I couldn’t agree more. We need to act now.
.
If you haven’t already signed the Energy Independence NOW petition, I encourage you to click here and sign it as soon as possible. Share it with your friends and family. Let’s keep sending the message to Congress over and over and over again until they finally hear us and pass legislation to end our dangerous dependence on foreign oil.
.
I’ll be back in Washington next week to keep up the fight and will report back to you then. Thank you for staying with me. We’re going to get this done.

From the desk of T. Boone Pickens
.
Army,
.
I’m going to get straight to the point of this email.
.
We imported 4.35 billion barrels of oil in 2009 at a cost of over half a million dollars per minute.
.
Yes, you read that correctly.
.
4.35 BILLION barrels imported in 2009.
.
Over $500,000 dollars spent per MINUTE on foreign oil.
.
That’s another $265 BILLION siphoned out of America’s struggling economy, and we still haven’t adopted a real energy plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
.
For this reason I’m going back on the airwaves with a new television advertisement this week. In the ad, I encourage Americans to contact their Members of Congress immediately in support of the NAT GAS Act. You can view the new ad below...
.
If you haven’t already signed the Energy Independence NOW petition, I encourage you to
click here and sign it as soon as possible. ... This is important... 55,000 people have signed the petition in the past week. Let’s keep sending the message to Congress over and over and over again until they finally hear us and pass legislation to end our dangerous dependence on foreign oil.
.

We WILL get this done...
