Defense officials have identified the pilot of an Air Force F-16C that crashed outside Baghdad Nov. 27 as Maj. Troy L. Gilbert.
Gilbert is assigned to the 309th Fighter Squadron, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., and deployed to the 332nd Expeditionary Wing, Balad Air Force Base, Iraq.
He is officially listed as "duty status: whereabouts unknown."
An investigation is ongoing.
