* The Arizona Republic has this article posted in their Business section and it goes in part like this... Pickens said the U.S. needs to exploit all its resources, from solar power in Arizona to coal and nuclear energy, but that few things could cut foreign oil imports quickly...He said neither Obama's plans for 1 million plug-in hybrid vehicles nor John McCain's plans for 45 more nuclear plants would make a dent in oil imports, but semitrucks fueled by natural gas could reduce oil demand for the next 20 years before better transportation technology is available... "It's a bridge to the next generation, which will probably be the battery, the fuel cell," he said. "It won't be the hydrocarbon."... But the current drop in oil and natural-gas prices is slowing things down...

* REUTERS.com has this article on Mr. Pickens and his energy plan and it starts off like this... Billionaire T. Boone Pickens expects to know within 100 days of Barack Obama taking over as president in January whether the U.S. government is going to adopt part of his ambitious and controversial energy plan... The plan calls for an eventual overhaul of the power grid and Pickens is also betting on huge growth in wind power. But he said, as a start, the United States can move toward using natural gas in trucks as well as more renewable power... "I think both of those will be accepted in the first 100 days of this next administration," Pickens told industry players at the annual EEI Financial Conference on Tuesday... "I haven't been told that this is the way it's going to unfold," he said, but he saw Obama's plan to stop importing oil from the Middle East within 10 years as an indication that he favored his plan... "I think it can be done, but you're going to have to do it with natural gas," added Pickens, who made his fortune in the energy business...

Boone Pickens says he's picking up support in North Dakota and elsewhere for a nationwide "electric transmission superhighway" to help develop more power from the wind and sun... Sen. * The New York Times has this article posed in their Green Inc., Blogs section today and it starts off like this... Just a few months ago, momentum appeared to be building for cars fueled by compressed natural gas as a way to replace foreign oil imports... T. Boone Pickens, the former oil magnate with a big stake in natural gas distribution, and Aubrey McClendon, chief executive of Chesapeake Energy, a natural gas producer, poured tens of millions of dollars into television commercials promoting the idea, and a number of bills were introduced in Congress offering tax incentives to automakers and consumers to switch to natural gas vehicles... None of those bills have gone very far and the natural gas boom on the airwaves has gone quiet...

* Aljazeera.net has this pro-Iran report that starts off like this... Iran has said the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries should take action to stabilise oil prices... Expectations of weaker energy demand has pushed prices to fall below $60 a barrel for the first time since March 2007... Gholamhossein Nozari, Iran's oil minister, said that the stability of prices "needed a far reaching decision and further measures," after prices fell from a peak of $147 in July... "We are going to review oil market conditions and if there is a need, there might be an emergency meeting," he said on Tuesday... Iran depends heavily on oil sales, earning 80 per cent of its revenue from oil exports, and the Islamic Republic set its annual budget on the assumption that oil would trade at $90 a barrel... After cutting oil production by 1.5m bpd in October, an Opec source said on Tuesday the group may cut oil supplies by a further one million barrels per day (bpd) when it meets in Algeria in December...
