DoD Identifies Army Casualties


The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died January 8th in Maywand, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when their dismounted patrol was hit by an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Killed were:
Sgt. Joshua L. Rath, 22, of Decatur, Ala.
Spc. Keith E. Essary, 20, of Dyersburg, Tenn.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sgt. Justin L. Bauer, 24
, of Loveland, Colo., died January 10th in Baghdad of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died January 9th in the Zabul Province of Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle in Jaldak. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany.

Killed were:
Maj. Brian M. Mescall, 33
, of Hopkinton, Mass.
Spc. Joseph M. Hernandez, 24, of Hammond, Ind.
Spc. Jason R. Parsons, 24, of Lenoir, N.C.
