*  THE HAGUE (Reuters) have the following report posted today and it starts off like this… With an uprising in Syria loosening the grip of president Bashar al-Assad, world powers are worried that he could lose control of a secret stockpile of chemical weapons, giving militants access to deadly poison gas… Syria is one of just eight states - along with its arch foe Israel and nearby Egypt - that have not joined the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, which means the world's chemical weapons watchdog, has no jurisdiction to intervene there… Western countries believe that Damascus has the world's largest remaining stockpile of undeclared chemical weapons - including mustard gas and the deadly VX nerve agent - which Assad maintains as a counterbalance to Israel's undeclared nuclear arsenal…

WikiLeaks Leaked Logs Show More Proof that Iraq Pursued Bioweapons

Hope all had a GREAT weekend! We sure did... Even got some good ran last night, but just a little too windy for me.
Anyway... Here’s an interesting read by Ted Purlain that I ran across this afternoon on the BioPrepWatch.com website that I thought you all just might like... It goes in part like this... The 392,000 documents [released by the WikiLeaks organization] have hundreds of references to chemical and biological weapons over the period of the war, Wired reports. Most of them are intelligence reports or suspicions of WMD that did not exist, but in several cases, U.S. troops encountered very real dangers... Soldiers found stored blister agent in 2004 and then found mustard gas three years later in artillery shells under an Iraqi Community Watch checkpoint. In the second battle of Fallujah, American troops came across a house that was being used as a chemical lab and were called to dispose of another chemical weapons cache later in the battle, Wired reports...

* Guardian.co.uk brings us this bite of good news out of Iraq today and their report starts off like this... One of Saddam Hussein's most loathed henchman, Ali Hassan al-Majid, otherwise known as Chemical Ali, will be hanged within days, a senior official said tonight, setting the scene for Iraq's highest profile execution since Saddam himself was put to death more than three years ago... The former spy chief and first cousin of Saddam was today sentenced to death for ordering the slaughter of more than 5,000 Kurds in the northern Iraqi town of Halabja with chemical weapons in 1988... It was the fourth death sentence the 68-year-old has received for atrocities committed during the brutal three-decade reign of the Ba'athists. Iraq's deputy justice minister, Busho Ibrahim, said Majid's execution was now imminent... "We will receive Chemical Ali from the Americans in the next few days and he will be executed very soon afterwards," said Ibrahim. Majid was sentenced by Iraq's high criminal court. All remaining prosecutions he faces are now expected to be set aside...

Russia slams US Sanctions meant to punish firms for sales that have potential to the development of WMD

AFP.Google.com... Russia warned Friday that US sanctions on a Russian firm accused of defying a ban on sales of sensitive military technology to Iran will affect talks between world powers on Tehran's nuclear programme.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov explained in a press conference that Washington's unilateral approach was "inadmissible," not based on international law and threatened to wreck Iranian cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Russia's foreign ministry described the sanctions against Rosoboronexport are an "unfriendly act which cannot but have negative consequences as regards our dialogue with Washington, in particular in discussions between the Six," a statement said.

Thirteen foreign firms, including Russia's biggest arms exporter, were listed Friday in the US State Department's Federal Register as being "engaged in activities that warrant imposition of measures" under its Iran, North Korea and Syria Non-Proliferation Act.

The United States says the sanctions -- also targeting firms from China, Syria and Venezuela among other countries -- are meant to punish the firms for sales that have "potential to make a material contribution to the development of weapons of mass destruction or cruise or ballistic missile systems."

YNETNews.com has this troubling news out tonight and it goes in part like this... Dozens of Syrian military officers and Iranian engineers were killed about two months ago in an a chemical weapons accident, Jane's Magazine reported Monday, revealing new details on the incident which took place in a secret weapons facility... According to the report by the British magazine, the explosion occurred early in the morning on July 26, in a factory in the city of Halab, as the officers were attempting to mount a chemical warhead with mustard gas on a Scud-C missile...
