Syria Today: On Ground Updates - March 19, 2013

.

Today’s news of a possible chemical attack out of Syria is a big question mark right now but no matter how we look at it, it is some very troubling news. Here’s what some in the MSM are reporting this early Tuesday afternoon…

* CBS NEWS brings us the following report and it starts off like this…
The Syrian government accused rebels of firing a chemical weapon for the first time on Tuesday in the north of the country, killing at least 25 people in the war-torn Aleppo province. Rebels quickly denied the report and accused regime forces of firing a chemical weapon on a long-range missile… Neither of the accusations could immediately be verified, and a chemical weapons expert in the U.K. told CBSNews.com there was very little evidence to suggest any actual chemical weapons had been deployed…

* USA Today has this reportThe Obama administration has no evidence to back up a claim by Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime that the U.S.-backed Syrian rebels used chemical weapons, the White House said Tuesday… A U.S. official told the AP there was no evidence either side had used such weapons Tuesday in an attack in northern Syria, disputing a competing claim by rebels that it was regime forces who fired the chemical weapon… The origin of the attack is still unclear…

* The Guardian reports it this way…
Syria's information minister, Omran al-Zoabi, says Syrian rebels fired rockets containing chemical agents on Tuesday. He says the attack breaches international law, and says President Bashar al-Assad's forces would never use chemical weapons. The pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 26 people died in the attack near Aleppo, but the use of chemical weapons has not been confirmed…

My bet’s on it didn’t go down as reported… Or in other words, it wasn't a chemical attack…

Here we go again - Syria Uprising Creates Fear of WMD Spread

Thursday, May 03, 2012
.
THE HAGUE (Reuters) have the following report posted today and it starts off like this… With an uprising in Syria loosening the grip of president Bashar al-Assad, world powers are worried that he could lose control of a secret stockpile of chemical weapons, giving militants access to deadly poison gas… Syria is one of just eight states - along with its arch foe Israel and nearby Egypt - that have not joined the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, which means the world's chemical weapons watchdog, has no jurisdiction to intervene there… Western countries believe that Damascus has the world's largest remaining stockpile of undeclared chemical weapons - including mustard gas and the deadly VX nerve agent - which Assad maintains as a counterbalance to Israel's undeclared nuclear arsenal…

Still can’t help but believe that some of that stockpile is from the PAST Saddam Hussein, MOVED stockpiles. But that is another story…

* Guardian.co.uk brings us this bite of good news out of Iraq today and their report starts off like this... One of Saddam Hussein's most loathed henchman, Ali Hassan al-Majid, otherwise known as Chemical Ali, will be hanged within days, a senior official said tonight, setting the scene for Iraq's highest profile execution since Saddam himself was put to death more than three years ago... The former spy chief and first cousin of Saddam was today sentenced to death for ordering the slaughter of more than 5,000 Kurds in the northern Iraqi town of Halabja with chemical weapons in 1988... It was the fourth death sentence the 68-year-old has received for atrocities committed during the brutal three-decade reign of the Ba'athists. Iraq's deputy justice minister, Busho Ibrahim, said Majid's execution was now imminent... "We will receive Chemical Ali from the Americans in the next few days and he will be executed very soon afterwards," said Ibrahim. Majid was sentenced by Iraq's high criminal court. All remaining prosecutions he faces are now expected to be set aside...

Chemical Weapons Now being used in Mortar Shells in Iraq???

Chemical Weapons Now being used in Mortar Shells in Iraq???

There are several stories in this news article by Willard Payne at NewsBlaze.com that need further review... but I chose this part of the article to focus on... and it goes like this... For the past two months, ever since the new security offensive the Baghdad government attempted to make with Washington, attacks against US in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad have increased. And there are still the daily mortar attacks and truck bombs loaded with artillery shells still occurring in the capital. One doctor at a hospital only spoke on condition of anonymity because he was told not to mention the attack at all. However, he admitted that with the breathing problems the attack victims were showing then obviously some of the mortar shells were chemical...
