Here is the very latest news from the Senate regarding the proposedimmigration bill: Senator Reid filed cloture last night and we expect avote on it tomorrow (Thursday 06/07/07).


AMENDMENTS UPDATE:

On Wednesday, June 6, 2007 the Senate convenes at 9:30 am and immediately begins consideration of the controversial Immigration Bill. There will be2 hours of debate and then we will have 2 stacked roll call votes on the Kennedy amendment and the Cornyn amendment #1184 (regarding illegal aliencriminals). Note the Kennedy amendment is an alternative to the Cornyn amendment and it will be introduced on Wednesday morning.Tuesday’s roll call votes and the list of pending amendments are below:

Lieberman #1191 (asylum and detention standards)

Cornyn #1250 (mandatory disclosure of information)

Clinton #1183 (reclassification of spouses and children)

Obama #1202 (termination of merit based system)

DeMint #1197 (health care coverage for holders of Z non-immigrant visas)

Bingaman #1267 (remove requirement that Y-1 visa holders leave the US before they are able to renew their visa)

We MUST ramp up the calls to our Senators big time over the next 24 hours. I believe we have CLOSE to the 41 senators necessary to defeat cloture, causing Reid to pull the bill. WE CAN WIN!!! Please place telephone calls to your U.S. Senators today (phone and fax numbers available ontheir websites). Please call or fax as many U.S. Senators as you areable, in addition to your own.
