Dean is beginning to strengthen over the Bay of Campeche and is expected to make landfall later today.

As of 7:00 AM CDT the center of Hurricane Dean was located near Latitude 20.5 North... Longitude 95.5 West... or about 100 miles North-Northeast of Veracruz Mexico and about 120 miles East-Southeast of Tuxpan Mexico...

Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 90 MPH with higher gust and is a Category One Hurricane. Some strengthening is possible prior to landfall.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 200 miles.

The Minimum Central Pressure Pressure was recorded by an Air Force Reserve Unit Reconnaissance Aircraft at 976 MB... 28.82 Inches..

Dean has now Moved Inland over Mexico and is beginning to weaken...

Dean is now a Category One Hurricane. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 MPH. Continued weakening is expected until Dean DISSIPATES over the mountains of Central Mexico tonight.

Around 3:30am CDT... Category FIVE Hurricane Dean made landfall on the East Coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico...

As of 5:00 AM AST the center of Hurricane Dean was located near Latitude 18.7 North... Longitude 87.8 West... or about 35 miles East-Northeast of Chetumal Mexico and about 195 miles East-Southeast of Campeche Mexico.

Hurricane Dean had Maximum Sustained Winds near 165 MPH with higher gust and Dean made landfall as a Category Five Hurricane. Although some weakening is forecast as Dean crosses the Yucatan Peninsula… Dean is expected to maintain Hurricane strength throughout the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 175 miles.
.

The Minimum Central Pressure was recorded by a Hurricane Hunter Plane at 906 MB... 26.75 Inches just before landfall this morning.

As of 11:00 AM AST the center of Hurricane Dean was located near Latitude 17.9 North... Longitude 82.4 West... or about 125 miles Southwest of Grand Cayman and about 385 miles East of Belize City.

Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 150 MPH with higher gust. Dean is a Category Four Hurricane. and could become a Category Five Hurricane later today.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 205 miles.

The Estimated Minimum Central Pressure is 925 MB... 27.32 Inches.

DATA FROM THE AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING HURRICANE DEAN INDICATE THAT MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO 160 MPH... MAKING DEAN A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE.

Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 145 MPH with higher gust. Dean is a Category Four Hurricane. Fluctuations in intensity are common in major Hurricanes... and some fluctuations in intensity are likely with Dean during the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 205 miles.

Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 150 MPH with higher gust. Dean is a Category Four Hurricane. Satellite Images suggest that Dean could have weakened a little during the past few hours... but remains as a Dangerous Category Four Hurricane. Some fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 205 miles.

Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 100 MPH with higher gust. Dean is a Category Two Hurricane. Stronger winds... especially in gust... are likely over elevated terrain near the path of the center. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 70 miles.

The Estimated Minimum Central Pressure is 976 MB... 28.82 Inches.

More News - 2:00pm CDT: Hurricane Dean strengthened into a Category Three Hurricane and tore through the eastern Caribbean on Friday, ripping the roofs from a hospital and homes, and flooding buildings with rain and seawater. A 62-year-old man drowned - the storm's first death... With 125 mph winds, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season was expected to gain power over the warm waters of the Caribbean, hit Jamaica on Sunday and climb to Category 4 status before clipping Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula...

Hurricane Dean has formed in the Atlantic and is the Atlantic Season's first hurricane.

Hurricane Dean has Maximum Sustained Winds near 75 MPH with higher gust. Dean is a Category One Hurricane and additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter Aircraft will investigate Dean this afternoon.

Hurricane Force Winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 70 miles.

The Estimated Minimum Central Pressure is 987 MB... 29.15 Inches.
