The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sgt. Travis W. Atkins, 31, of Bozeman, Mont., died June 1st in Al Yusufiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit. Atkins was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
