Operation Lighting

Update… Operation Lighting-- Baghdad Iraq

It has been two weeks now and the Iraqi Government counterinsurgency operation seems to be working. Yes… Operation Lighting which is made up of nearly 40,000 Iraqi forces some say and backed by another 7,000 to 10,000 US Troops seems to have been a huge success in combating local insurgents and al- Qaida terriost in and around the Baghdad area of Iraq.

Government officials have said that Operation Lighting has so far led to the arrests of at least 1,318 and many other combatants have been killed. This latest crackdown is showing success in drastically reducing the number of car bombings in and around Baghdad. If I’m correct they were having around 12 car bombings a day in Baghdad before the beginning of Operation Lighting. Those numbers are down to more like two a day now.

Yes the bombings and killings are still going on over there and the news media is most certainly not going to let us forget it either. Yet it isn’t as bad as it was and all hopes are on the facts and for things to get better and soon…

Anyway… With the success of late, Iraqi officials feel confident that the Iraqi government will have their country back under control and within the next six months too. We can only wish them all the best……
