7 Day Extension Granted for the new Iraqi Draft Constitution

U. S. State Department officials and Sec. Rice have confirmed that the Iraqi parliament voted today to extend the deadline for finalizing Iraq's ‘draft constitution’ by seven days. The vote to extend the deadline came within 20 minutes of the midnight deadline.

Just this Sunday, U. S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad reported, on morning talk shows that the Iraqi constitution committee had agreed on most all the key issues, but were still trying to work out two major differences.
These are:
One- The role of the central government versus that of regional or state government entities...
Two- The role of Islam, particularly women's rights, in the new Iraqi government…
I for one would think there is more to it than this and I’m real sure that over the next few days these differences will be brought out in full force by the major news media.

Late this afternoon, during a news briefing, Sec. Rice said that "this is democracy at work in Iraq." I’ll have to agree with her. Yet I’m sure over the next few days many will be harping that this is just another Bush failure.
