I thank God for our Military

If we had not gone to war with Iraq, what would the war on terror look like now, at this moment on this day??? I’ll give you a quick look at what I think. Everything would be the same except instead of all this hell going on in Iraq, it would all be back in Afghanistan and much, much worse. With or without Iraq in the mix these crazies were coming after us no matter where we fought this war. (I wrote these words months ago and I still stick by them.)

I’ll ask another Question,,, If we brought all the Troops home today… What would the Terrorists do??? My answer is the same as the one the President gave in his news conference yesterday: "They kill because they are trying to shake our will… They're trying to drive free nations out of parts of the world so they can topple governments throughout the Middle East and establish Taliban-like regimes in the Middle East and turn that region into a launching pad for attacks against free people,” the President said. I have to agree with the man. I’ll also add this… If we bring our Troops home today… we’ll only delay the inevitable. They, (the Terrorists) will regroup… And when ready, again come and KILL us. “

Yes… Mistakes have been made in this war, like in all wars. But I thank God for our Military that have taken the fight to our enemies and for a Commander in Chief like GW Bush… And in the Presidents on words about the Terrorists, “…and they will fail.”

The only LIE, the only falsehood in this country today is to say we are not at war. As of 9-11, a day we did not ask for changed all of that......

While I tend to agree with you in general, it is possible that Afghanistan wouldn't be as bad as Iraq for a number of reasons.

First the population is much smaller (about 9 compared with 25 million). This would provide a smaller base from which the terrorist would prey from. You of course would counter with the fact that some of the insurgents in Iraq are coming from other countries like Syria and Iran. Then you would say this would still be the case in Afghanistan.

And I would say, not so fast. If we were only in Afghanistan then we wouldn't be fighting a two front war. All of the troops in Iraq could then be put in Afghanistan, perhaps suring up the border against those foreign fighters.

Things need to get better in Iraq before we leave(my bet is we will have a perminent presences in Iraq just like all the other countries we have invaded, germany, korea, japan). There is no question we can't leave now, but if things don't get better we would have to execute the j. james three step plan.

1. Install pro-US dictator
2. Cut
3. Run

We will have no choice, because if things don't get better, in 2008 we will have a cut n run candidate for president, and he (or she) will win.

Many people today are closing their eyes and saying we're not at war. Equally wrong is closing our eyes and saying we can't lose.

Brian, I just hope they can pull it all together and get that constitution done by that date.

JJ… It’s not that many in Iraq killing our troops either… In Afghanistan, one has to take into account all those Mountains we would have to fight in. You can’t just bomb the terrorist out of those caves. You got to go and get them… Nothing like in a desert with a not so well built house getting slap took out before we ever go in. That my friend saves a lot of American lives.

No sir… There’s not much backup by our helicopters in Afghanistan. Mostly because they just can’t fly that high. I’ve heard your argument before about the Troop numbers too. The bottom line is we would lose a lot more life up in those mountains than we’d ever lose in Iraq.

One more note… The fighting has been ratcheting up of late in Afghanistan. Just look below this post for the men who have given their all in this country these past few weeks.
