SATELLITE DATA & SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT THE LOW PRESSURE AREA IN THE CARIBBEAN HAS BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED AND IS NOW A TROPICAL DEPRESSION

AS OF 11:00am EDT, TROPICAL DEPRESSION SEVEN HAD MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND THE DEPRESSION COULD BECOME A TROPICAL STORM LATER TODAY.

* Tropical Storm Gustav Forms *

Tropical Depression Seven has strengthened over the last few hours and is now an official Tropical Storm that has winds near 60MPH with higher gust. The name of this new Tropical Storm is “Gustav”.
