* Let’s get caught up with the Haynesville Shale News by starting off with this news article I found today at the SFGate.com website.
It was posted Sunday at the following link...
Underground bonanza- Shale find could be biggest natural gas field in the country
.
* The Shreveport Times is at it again with the following report... The natural resources of the state, including air and water, and the healthful, scenic, historic, and esthetic quality of the environment shall be protected, conserved, and replenished insofar as possible and consistent with the health, safety, and welfare of the people. The legislature shall enact laws to implement this policy...

The Shreveport Times also had the following report from Sunday and it goes in part like this...
...Water is used by oil and gas companies to extract their product from the ground - so much that more water can be involved in the process than the oil or gas itself. Eventually, that water becomes useless to the companies for several reasons and has to be stored somewhere out of harm's way. Putting it deep, deep in the ground is usually how companies do so...

* NewOrleansCityBusiness.com has the following report... The Louisiana Mineral Board posted its second highest mineral lease sale on record this month, thanks in large part to interest generated by a natural gas discovery in the northwest portion of the state... The Mineral Board on Wednesday collected $93.8 million, nearly double the $48.7 million collected in July. The board said most of the August lease sale was related to state-owned land, meaning a windfall for Louisiana...

* Investerms.com has this report and it starts off like this... Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) shares may be well off of their highs this year, but a recovery isn't out of the question, according to many experts. The largest natural gas producer in the United States has come under pressure recently thanks to lower natural gas prices. However, many experts believe that natural gas prices have bottomed and that companies like Chesapeake Energy are a bargain at these low levels. So, is this a company that investors should keep an eye on going forward?

* Reuters.com brings us the following 2 reports...
> Forest Oil to buy Texas properties for $892 million
.
> Chesapeake Energy Corp... is planning to spin off its natural gas gathering unit but the company would not say what form the business will eventually take... In June, the Oklahoma City-based company said it had temporarily delayed plans to raise capital through the sale of a minority interest in its gas gathering or midstream business, a move that had been expected to bring in $1 billion... The firm on Monday declined to reveal its plans for the as yet unnamed business, offering only that the spinoff was meant to extract value from its assets...

Tuesday

* DallasNews.com brings us this report early this Tuesday morning and it starts off like this... The gas wells enter the earth's surface for more than a mile, then make an abrupt turn for another few thousand feet to tap gas under urban developments... Along the way, steel surface casing prevents contamination of fresh water in the ground, steel tubing allows the oil or gas to travel to the surface, and steel production casing acts as a protective layer underground... But the steel pipe used in these wells is becoming more expensive and harder to get for oil and gas companies, putting a drag on production and driving up the cost and time it takes to plan the wells... And the effect on North Texas could be significant, particularly because gas drilling in the Barnett Shale requires the complex rigs that snake into the ground horizontally...

* MarshallNewsMessenger.com has this news article posted today on their website... The way the big-city newspapers tell it, every land-owning yokel on the wrong side of the state line is getting rich these days... Our neighbors in northwestern Louisiana are lucky. They are living on top of what many believe will be the largest natural gas discovery in the United States. It's called the Haynesville Shale, except when it's called the Bossier Shale, and it stretches into a good chunk of East Texas... And the land rush is on... In the mad scramble for drilling rights, property owners in Louisiana are cashing in lease checks for up to $20,000 an acre. Some got swindled early, signing over acres for as little as $200 a pop, but others are holding out for much more... "There's a lot of people getting some money over there," said Rob Thompson, owner of RWT Land Services in White Oak... Thompson employs around 70 leasing agents, known as landmen, and he said about half of them are working to secure rights for petroleum companies in the Haynesville Shale...

* TheAdvocate.com reports...
The economic and environmental impact of the Haynesville Shale - a massive natural gas discovery two miles beneath Shreveport - might not be known for years, oil industry officials said Monday... But huge volumes of water will be required to force the gas out of underground shale formations, said Dan Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association... In Louisiana so far, the shale stretches from Caddo Parish south to Sabine Parish and the eastern boundary is somewhere around Caldwell Parish, said Briggs, who spoke to the Press Club of Baton Rouge... “We’re still discovering how far it will go,” Briggs said. “It will take some time to find out.”...

* KETKnbc.com website has the following short News/Video report...
A group in Rusk is helping East Texas mineral rights owners make the most money when the hype from the Haynesville Shale comes to town... The Haynesville Shale could be one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the world... The formation extends from Louisiana, into East Texas... If you own the rights to the minerals under the earth's surface, this hype could serve as a pretty big "pay-day."...

* Cattlenetwork.com
has this report...
Amid a swarm of natural gas producers rushing to acquire acreage in hard-to-drill rock formations throughout the U.S., Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK) has stood apart as one of the most voracious land buyers... In recent years, some investors and analysts have questioned whether Chesapeake's aggressive strategy exposed the company to too much risk. But if the company's second-quarter results are any indication, the acquisitive tactics are paying off - and the best may be yet to come. Analysts are generally bullish on its stock, which they consider undervalued and due to benefit from even greater gas production...

* The Shreveport Times has the following posted on their website today and it starts off like this... Stephen Lynn has been a landman for more than 35 years... Lately, he's been spending much of his time researching property records at clerk of court offices in Caddo, Bossier and DeSoto parishes... And he's not alone... Hundreds of landmen have descended on northwest Louisiana to cash in on the Haynesville Shale natural gas deposit, and Lynn doesn't like all the company... "I don't think they've had the proper training," he said of some landmen. "Everyone is in it for the money. There's a right and wrong way to do things."... Lynn's biggest beef with the new generation of landmen is their attitude and rudeness when dealing with landowners...
